Hi Guys,
Presently rebuilding a Honda xr 250 Baja, it's the one with electric start.
Does anyone know if the carb from the 'R' model [kickstart model] will be okay on this ?
They look completely different to me, but i think it will fit, just don't know if it will be okay.
As i'm doing a chassis -up rebuild, and fairly crap at being a bike mechanic, can anyone recommend somewhere in Yorkshire that may be able to help with things like fitting the kickstart mechanism and rewiring etc ?
Thanks in advance.

If it is a Baja chances are that it is fitted with an accelerator pump carb which is the same as the XL and XLR models and in my opinion is crap, on my 93 BAJA it ran fine when the accelerator pump was in action ie when accelerating but on constant speed work it was it weak at both the bottom end and the top end.
I junked mine at 8000 miles and fitted a suitably jetted XR non accelerator pump item which allowed a better tickover, and better top end with no noticable difference in acceleration.

Basically any carb from the single carb XR/ XL 250 twin shocks onwards are interchangeable, I've had mine going a 250 Motorsport item to test the carb from my mates bike and at the minute mine has a 1979 XR250 carb on it.

If I was you I would stick to the electric start and battery , easier to start and more saleable at the end of the day

Tin,I found your post from I don't know how long ago.Did you get to the bottom of your carb problem ? Would you know if the float needle off a XR250 is the same as the original XLR Baja carb. Cheers Jim.:beerjug:
