XT not recognised in BaseCamp on a Mac.... a possible answer and work around

Are yiu using Commander 1 or just plugging the XT straight in? My XT will, of course, connect through Commander 1. But that requires the downloading of the Commander 1 package.
Connecting straight to Mac. No third party app.
Occasionally you have to ignore it and click "update" even though Express thinks it's not connected I've found. It finds it then. Basecamp will be showing it fine and downloading/uploading.
Or the old one of pulling the USB and plugging it back in.
Its yet another known Garmin issue.

After much pissing about with my old 660 I have gone and bought a Zumo XT, got it yesterday and set it up , but imagine my joy when I just couldn’t get it to connect to Basecamp on m Mac ,….like wtf !!!
Just flicking through this thread I now understand the compatibility issues stop them from connecting,..why the F is none of this mentioned in the sales blurb from Garmin when you’re purchasing the unit???
As a 67 year old confirmed Luddite, I just want to plug it in and transfer my routes to it, is that too much to ask?
It has so many functions that I’ll never use, but the fundamental one basic thing I want it to do, connect,….no bloody chance!
Any ( simple easily understandable help, small words please) would be greatly appreciated, if I can’t connect it simply,..it’s going back for a refund.
This sort of crap I can do without, Garmin need a massive boot up the arse for not being up front about this,..Grrrrr!!

I would send it back , I wish I sent mine back now I stuck with it

On my Mac (Apple silicon) the XT shows up in both Basecamp or Express, without Commander 1. It doesn’t show up in File Manager without Commander 1 or the Android Transfer programme

I only need Commander 1 if I want to rummage about in the XT file directory.

Things I have found out.

1) Use the OEM Garmin cable, others often don’t work
2) connect direct to a USB on the computer, not via a hub.

Sorry for the late reply guys, I’ve been away for a couple of days

Want to sell it?

Nope, it’s going back, if it won’t connect on the cable like the 660 did it’s not fit for purpose in my opinion..

Garmin appear not to give two toasted farts for MAC users.....very strange.

Just a quick update, I mailed Garmin help desk about the non connecting issue between the Zumo XT and the Mac last Sunday, got an acknowledgment straight away that my mail had been received, but as yet,..no reply from them, like wtf!

So, I’ve given up and returned the unit for a refund, I just cannot be arsed with all this hassle, even trying to add extra Eastern European maps to an extra SD card , no luck, so basically I’m no further forward than I was two weeks ago, just a lot more frustrated with Garmin, it’s enough to make me want to go back to maps and route notes stuck on the top of the tank !

Strangely enough, I’ve connected my mates BMW NAV6 straight to the Mac with no issues, so I might look for a second hand one of those,…bloody sat navs !

Oddly mine works with the Mac, and Mrs Berins does too. It connects every time to Garmin Express or Basecamp
