Not being totally happy with the security of the XT mounty and the cost of the aftermarket options
I have come up with this...Works fine designed more to keep the XT secure when riding over rough terrain than stopping it getting
nicked when you park up..But would most likely help with that too ( you need allen key to remove it )
After all if they want it they will prise it off no matter what you use
Works with XT1 XT2 and Tread

Are you offering to make them for other owners?

If so, a price would be helpful.

Simplified, but essentially the same concept as the Moto Pumps device. I use one and fiddly, but stops the release button being pressed in the same way as intended by this. The full fat one is of course expensive if you factor in all the add on costs.

Are there many (or indeed, any) reports of XT devices, jumping off their conventional Garmin cradle?

The internet does not seem to be awash with reports of GPS devices being stolen. That, said, prevention is often better than cure.

I think the garmin XT mount is nowhere near as good as the Montana 600 or 700 mount
I have switched from a Montana 700 to a Tread 2 for off road and simply don’t trust the standard
XT mount with a expensive unit that would no doubt be trashed if it did jump off
I purchased a Touratech mount for this reason it works great but is £140
Having more than 1 bike I wanted something that worked and was cheap that is why I made this
And yes if there is some interest I could make a few. Price wise with a stainless screw £15 posted
Cheap enough to help protect a £500 unit IMHO

As always the fear of crime/loss/disaster is far greater than the reality. Devices such as the one made by the OP offer peace of mind which is a comforting commodity when in fact it is a simple matter to remove the satnav or whatever from its mount and derive the same peace of mind

Not necessarily on adventure/road bikes BUT Garmins suggestion of replacing the 2x 700 series we have with XT2/tread was met with the suggestion of trying a different solution after having my XT go west on a trail because the release button is in exactly the perfect position for any branch/bramble/whatever to activate it.
Fortunately I picked up another Touratech locking mount cheaply enough to use on the 701.
However with DMD2 as good as it is now the XT’s could be resigned to backup/sold

I’m only surprised the same branch didn’t take your head off :D

Surprised and relieved, too. :beerjug:

I had a go at printing a locking XT mount, but went all in and did a variation on the Touratech cradle.
