Hi

My touring buddy has got a new XT2 to replace an old Zumo 660. We have our next trip on MRA, accessible by all parties.

The routes have transferred perfectly to my Nav 6, but no Apple device will recognise the XT2. I borrowed a Windows laptop and it worked perfectly.

Is this normal for the new XT? The Garmin helpdesk referred the owner to Apple, who decided it wasn’t recognised by the Apple machine, no shit Sherlock.

What are you trying to do with the XT2 and the Apple devices?

If you are trying to send routes to it, use the Garmin app, which is called Tread, I think.

Yes the XT uses Android files.

It works with Garmin Express but won't show in File Manager.

It works with free Android file transfer, or the Commander One file manager app.

But it will only connect to one app - turn off the start on connect function for Garmin Express, as if it’s connected to any other app it won’t show up.

It will show up in Basecamp, just takes ages

He’s trying to transfer the routes from MRA to the XT2. It would appear Garmin are trying to make it as difficult as possible.

Can you transfer the routes in MRA directly into Tread, then into the XT?

As Richard said. Download the Garmin app to your Apple device iPad/iPhone

The app called Garmin Drive. It using Bluetooth to communicate between your chosen device (Apple or Android) and Garmin XT.

I don't have an XT2 but surely you can down load the Routes to your phone and upload them to Tread and sync with the XT2??

Here is a quick tutorial on an iPhone* (it should be fairly similar on Android phone/tablet)

Open MyRoute App (download and sign in as necessary)...

IMG_1665.jpeg

Then tap on the "Hamburger" stack...
IMG_1666.jpeg

Tap on Routes tab, to open you saved routes library...
IMG_1667.jpeg

... tap & select on a route to be transferred to your (friends) Garmin XT/XT2...

IMG_1668.jpeg

...tap on a download tab (downward pointing arrow)...

IMG_1669.jpeg

... choose a format to be exported and tap on download tab. It has been noted that for Garmin, the highlighted .gpx 1.1 is the best option to choose...

IMG_1670.jpeg

... tap on export tab. You may wish to tap on Download tab, should you know that you might be in the wilds of Mongolian Steppe and finding a mobile network or a coffee shop with a public wifi might be a fair bit of wishful thinking. By tapping on Download, you can save the route.gpx file to device' onboard storage (hard drive if you like)... more later.

IMG_1671.jpeg

*You need to download Garmin Drive app (see post #6), as this is the only way that your (friends) Garmin XT will be able to communicate by means of utilising Bluetooth. You must pair said Garmin Device with your (friends) iPhone first.

When prompted, tap on Garmin Drive app within the pop-up menu.

When your XT is connected, the iPhone by means of Bluetooth and Garmin Drive app will do the rest. you just have to tap on Send and wait a few moments, for this to complete. do not go wondering off with your phone away from the Garmin XT, as this will stop communication between these devices.

Once transfer has completed, head over to your (friends) Garmin device menu and select Trip Planner app, (you may get a notification, such as "New trip has been imported") followed by selecting Saved Trips, then find the route you just have transferred. Select it, it'll show a route summary, check that it does tally up to that on MyRoute App. You may also tap on the Map tab, to preview the entire route, Other wise tap on Go and select nearest entry point and tap OK.

Thank you so much for taking the time to show this in such simple steps. It’s been passed on and he successfully loaded the first day on, so it looks like the jobs a goodun
