XT2 Portrait or Landscape ?

Can I suggest that if you prefer landscape, then you are ‘showing your age’.
All of the YouTubers use phones in portrait. All of the young viriles take photos in portrait . Several new bikes , including Big Rick Moto, Ian’s “Best Adventure bike that I’ve ever riden”, have portrait screens.
Portrait makes sense ; you can always see more ahead , in portrait.
Thoughts ?

It very much does work , and for any zoom , you can see more of the route up ahead, than you would in landscape . Of course there is no more whizz wheel function , but the screen is so large that not necessary . I haven’t seen anyone else try this yet.

Hi. I am impressed. Just for my imaging: portrait mode (vertical). It's a Garmin xt/xt2? Because I hear and read that the Garmin does not function in portrait mode while riding. Then the image returns to landscape mode. And you rode it on your motorcycle?! What exactly did you do then? Do you use the original Garmin holder? Like to hear from you. Greetings William

This is XT2 , held by its supplied GARMIN mount which is slightly different than the XT1 version. The Garmin mount would do the job on its own , but for security, all clamped by a Touratech’s fabulous metal XT2 cradle. I don’t want to keep removing the unit every time I stop for coffee.
The Touratech mount grips the top and bottom of the unit and , when closed also locks the Garmin release button; it’s really well designed .
XT2 does NOT revert to landscape during riding .Every function automatically switches to portrait mode as the unit is rotated . (I believe that both XT1 and XT2 run in portrait mode , if wished.)

I won’t labour the ‘portrait discussion’ anymore . I am loving portrait , loving the XT2 and , contrary to others , I’m loving the Tread app after many years of Basecamp use. It’s a new era for me and I started with my Garmin Quest in 2005.

You can chose to lock landscape or portrait.
North up works for some- I prefer track up as any announced turns will be correct as in T-left and the turn will be on your left-
(set north up and all that is reversed thereby confusing grey cells)

I would not put your faith in the TT mount lock- I tested an old one I had and it resisted my common screwdriver all of 3 seconds....
Leave it 'locked' on your behemoth and it's bye bye satnav is a thief is around. You won't be grinning then matey
Same goes for the RAM security round knob - undone with a leatherman pliers in same amount of time

Please can i ask how you attach the mounting bracket on the rear of the unit...? I have the XT and TT Mount but the bracket supplied is for Landscape only... am i overthinking this or have you the modified the mount to allow portrait? Thanks in advance.

No modifications whatsoever with TT XT2 mount and I’ll assume that TT XT1 mount is the same. The tee TT brackets are the same , but you just need to choose different holes for the many bolts supplied in the Touratech kit.

Yep... I've had another look... and looks like I can use the four mounting bolts to secure the curved mounting bracket in different orientation. think there are 3 options shown on the TT website.. Will have another look this weekend... just fiddly with small bolts, nuts and washers... lol

It is indeed very fiddly ; the nuts and bolts are very small .
Power easily sorted if you purchase a BMW connector, solder wires to it, and plug into the oem connector, tucked in on the right side.
