XT660Z in the beginning.....

A few pics of the XT660Z that I have been luckily enough to obtain (and it nearly wasn't to be!).
Having ordered the machine in February, I had some bad news by saying Yamaha hadn't honoured the oreder due to the 'local' rep being layed-off (sacked?).
So what happened then was very strange. The dealer bought a bike from another dealer. Why so strange? Well, all I was reading was that 'all' the UK bikes had been sold apart form one or two khaki or black models, and I wanted a white.... typical!
Anyway, sure enough it arrived in the showroom, and whilst there, the word had got out and some of my advrider and trail riding buddies nipped down to take a look. They said to see it whilst it was still straight...... Cheeky monkeys!

And then the happy lad himself.....

I'm not sure what happened, but I ended up stopping for photos on a road with no tarmac on it!
And smack-bang in the middle of Wirral also....

Very nice Timpo , looks best in white IMHO and perfect match for the lid too

I am liking those exhausts and she deefinitely looks best from the rear but I'm still not sure about those 'praying mantis' looks from the front. Maybe a grower.

aup timpo i had a deposit on a new yam but cancelled it in march has i found a nice ktm 640 adv on ebay maybe when i replace the ktm exellent ride report from portugal

Looks very nice, I keep thinking about the two at my local dealer (black and khaki).... erm.... erm...

Surprisingly I too would like the engine bars and guard... I can just about make out the head light protector as well, have you tried the lights in the dark? Better than a 1200GS?

I'm just a couple of hundred quid shy at the moment (without any extra's) so I might wait for a white one... which is the best colour anyway

Very very nice Timpo - I can see myself getting one of these it really looks a great tool. I believe the tyre sizes are the same as for the HP2 so it should open up a bit more choice as well.

Came close to getting one over the F650 Dakar, but adding the extra centre stand, protection to sump and so on, then it weighs the same as a 1200. One Yamaha site said it has a steel swing arm, others say aluminium. Tons of extras for the BMW kept it in favour.

I also scavenged the net for any sort of reviews (the one in Bike was shite as usual) but Yamaha kept a very tight lid on things. What I found out was the seat was pants and vibes were an issue (as they are on the F650, so nothing new there).

Can you borrow an F650 and do a review. It would be the first!

Having HP2 sized wheels is a limitation as they use a 17" rear instead of the usual 18", greater availability in the larger size.

Nice looking bike IMO although for some reason I prefer the Mushroom Soup colour option.

You read the wrong mags - TBM gave it a very positive write up, even mentioned that vibes were only an issue for poncy journos used to sports bikes
