I've just changed the engine oil/filter on my XTZ660. I've filled with 3 full litres of oil but still can't get to the min mark on the dipstick!. I've run the engine and been for s short ride to circulate the oil, but it's still showing dry on the dipstick. The manual states 2.7 litres inc filter and I've put 3 in :nenau . I've opened the air bleed screw on the filter cover and the oil shot out in a jet, so compression is fine etc. Just wondered if there was something I was missing as I know they have separate oil tank and sump.

If it is like my TRX was, it is a pain ,i would ride it til warm, then leave it over night.
then put a tiny bit in to show on the dipstick ..up to the half way mark...do it in small amounts.

It's a dry sump isn't it? My mate had a similar problem with his Yam 600. Can't be sure but, think he ended up checking it whilst running.

I have that engine in my MZ Skorpion tour. Warm the engine up let it Idle in neutral for 1min, then check the oil. On the MZ i do this with the bike on the centre stand not too sure that the xtz has one. Bit of a faff to change the oil on with having to undo the bottom oil supply pipe to empty the engine and having to clean the coarse filter on the oil return pipe. BTW the MZ manual quotes 2.6L Oil change without filter, 2.7L for oil change with filter and 3L total capacity with 300cc bottom to top of dip stick.Good luck

Thanks for the help. 3l has already gone in. I'm going add a few more ml and see if it'll top up. It might just be that I did a good oil change and got every last bit out. I did it as per the book.. ie sump bolt, filter and downtube thingy at the front.
