If I were to fit a Y piece and an end can apart from attracting the boys in blue what are the benefits?? Does a GS run ok? Whats the sensor that plugs into it for and does ot matter that it would no be fitted. Finally do you have to alter anything to do with the injection mapping? Maybe not finally...........how much is a Y piece and a recommended end can? TY

I neither have a Y-piece nor any interest in fitting one. This board seems to be peppered with threads from folk who have had assorted problems with fitting Y-pieces and aftermarket exhaust boxes. The problems range from rough running and backfiring to melted luggage.

I not even convince that they make the bikes any quicker.

If I want to go faster, I open the throttle a little more!

Are there any pros to fitting one though or is is just so that u can fit an aftermarket can?

You can fit an aftermarket Can with the Cat if you want to, the 'Y' piece doesnt't affect that choice.

Yes some folk have had problems but not all, I haven't.

My Bike 'feels' quicker without, but that may be due to the weight saving by swopping both Cat. and Can, a BIG reduction.....Oh, and the sound it makes now :)

The Choice as they say.............is yours.

You can even run the standard Can with a 'y' piece which I did for a while, even that is a large weight saving...

Go on, Go on, Go on.

I had the same concerns as you about fitting a Y piece, I did it anyway.
I still use the standard can, and it sounds better [not noisy- just better] pulls much better, is around 15lbs lighter, and I have had not problems with backfiring or panniers melting.

It is a worthwhile mod, costs around £200 new or £100 - £150 second hand. there is usually someone selling one on the site.

Call me solid but am I correct in thinking that the end can and the cat are a single unit, looks like it on my bike. I ride a 1997 1100 GS which I bought here in Germany. By the way anyone know where I can get a cheap clock in MPH fir the machine?

Sorry didn't think to check what your bike was, I was taking about the1150s

Well Mr. Solid - if you've got the better 1100 all you need is an 'S' piece and an End can.

The superior 1100 already has a 2 into 1 as part of the headers and you just fit the 'S' bit as an extension to reach the end can.

You have to have an aftermarket end can -you can't use any part of the original.

You can choose to buy a quiet can, a loud can or a can you can remove baffles to change the noise.

Depending if you're an old fart or if you've got sensitive neighbours will depend on your choice of noise output.

Your wallet size will dictate the end can material - Titanium being mostest - alloy being cheapo-est.

U mite get a mph clock from www.motorworks.co.uk or www.motobins.co.uk. As to Cats and y pieces, I believe my old GS (admittedly a 1150GSa) suffered from the cat removal (y piece and remus Tit can) though it did feel faster in midrange, I'm not sure that its was fuelled correcly across the entire range (lambda sensor connected) plugs indicated lean burn and some oil use. I think it was WOT lean and it probably increase ring wear due to increase heat. either way it developed a thirst for oil above the normal GS rate.

Hi Alpmeister,
Just done this to my 1100gs. I will take a couple of pictures and an update when its daylight.

About too..

Bought a remus Y piece.. about to remove the cat, but keep the standard can. Its my winter tinker project.

Heard it helps the throttling of the engine.. i am going to see if it does, will keep it, if it doesnt will put the cat back on.

Hi again Alpmeister, photos as promised.

This is the standard 1100gs combined cat and silencer removed.

A big and heavy lump.

Hi Noddy,
I have the same can and it does certainly make a lot nicer noise and seems to give a it more grunt. But as Maverick once told me this is simply the rider giving the bike a bit more stick coz of the nice noise.

Thoroughly recommended and makes sod all difference on my commuting run to petrol consumption.

Oh by the way any one got one for sale as a m8 of mine wants one. (jealous sod)

And this one from the other side and lower.

I also got the chip at the same time from Paragon, and fitted it at the same time as the Zorst. Mistake. What I should have done was fit the Zorst, then run it for a few weeks b4 fitting the chip.
That way I could have reported on the chip!

My findings are that the bike has much improved pickup from midrange and will roll on without a down shift from top when overtaking. It does do a bit of backfiring if you go down through the gears, but I don't ride that way normally.

An added bonus is that it sounds bloody fantastic, other drivers are well aware of me now. Its interesting to see them looking in their mirrors to see where the noise is coming from.
Been said lots of times b4, noisy bikes are antisocial but they do save lives.

Noddy.
