Hi all, sorry to drag up the same old thing, but i've just trawled through the first eight pages of y-piece stuff and not found the info I wanted. At what stage of the procedure do you undo the sensor? There doesn't appear to be enough room to get a spanner on to it in situ, so is there enough slack on the wire to drop the cat, then remove? Are the improvements as noticeable on the twin spark? Mine runs pretty well as it is, but as I've got a y-piece, it'd be a shame not to try it. I don't want loads of noise, preferring to run in stealth mode, and I haven't got a can anyway.

Thanks in anticipation, Martin.

Martin,

if asking a tech question, it's useful to put what bike you're talking about, particularly if it's not mentioned in your profile;)...

Assuming you're talking about an 1150 - the lambda probe connector is up underneath the tank on the right hand side. It's a cylindrical plug & socket, held in place by a cable tie which you'll need to cut. You can then undo the plug & get a ring spanner over it and thus onto the lambda probe.

From memory,it's a 22mm - but it was a while ago... I'd advise giving it a good spray with WD40 or similar a few days beforehand.

The thing to watch out for when disconnecting the lambda is twisting or stretching the cable and buggering it up. 2 theories - first is to remove the tank, disconnect the lambda cable completely and remove it entirely before taking the cat out, or secondly and this is what I've always done - use a box or something beneath the cat to stop it hitting the deck when you release it, disconnect it and then twist the cat CAREFULLY itself to undo it from the sensor. This probably isn't the 'proper' way to do it but if you take your time....

Don't forget to reset the motronic when you done!
