I've jusy fitted a Remus Y piece to my 1150GSA and the two front joints are blowing. I bought it second hand but it hadn't been used. The only clamps I had were the BMW ones, but the guage of the y piece was thinner than that of the pipes on the cat. I filed down the spacers in both clamps and even tried removing one but the joints still blow and the clamps cannot be tightened any more.

Any ideas would be appreciated thanks. :nenau

The obvious is to get some Remus clamps, they are different. Or, make some packing pieces out of thin stainless steel to go between the pipe and the clamp.

Also, before all that, have you tried sealing the joints?

I used HOLTS exhaust gum and a pair of clamps from a local car parts shop. I've never had a backfire since fittng.

I had the same problem but filled the gap between clamp and pipe using a skillfully snipped piece of stainless steel sheet.

You should be able to buy a stainless steel bolted hose clamp from a motor factors. Look at: http://www.flexiblehose.co.uk/boltclamps.htm (though I don't think they sell them online).

I did try packing out between the clamp and pipe with a strip cut from an aluminium beer can, which I then wrapped around the pipe before sliding the clamp over. Maybe a thicker piece of stainless would do it then.

The Y piece is a good fit on the down pipes so how do you get the sealant in?

You need to use a thicker piece of metal and do not overlap it - doing so will make it leak because the clamp will not apply even pressure around the circumference of the pipe.

Leave it as it is......and learn the childish joy that is shutting off the throttle in a tunnel and making her backfire beautifully :thumb

That used to be my favourite pass time down long hills in my MK2 Mexico - but I've since tried to convince myself that I've grown out of it so don't tempt me!

Yep true satisfaction. :thumb But I spoilt mine by sealing the leak with silicone sealant.
