Hi folks,

I'm currently in the process of getting a y-piece to fit to my 1150gs yr 2000 model. I'm hoping to be able pick some brains on this. My main question is does it significantly effect the running of the bike? I have read that some folk seem to have problems and then do a cat code mod. Do the majority have trouble free fitment and running? My bike still has the cat and i have pretty bad surge at 3000 when doing 30mph which is becoming annoying. it'll do a kangarooing motion as it trickles along at 30. accelerating it is pretty smooth no flat spots or drop off.

I hope that fitting a y-piece won't make the surging worse.

any thoughts?

I'd be inclined to fix the surging before messing with the exhaust. A new pipe just introduces a new set of variables into an already tricky equation...

If you have a cat code plug in place on your bike try running it with the plug removed. Removing the yellow cat code plug cured the surging on my R1150R, have since fitted y pipe with the standard can and have had no further issues.

The main effect of fitting a "Y" piece to my 1150 was improved fuel consumption and a lot more mid-range torque.Do a search for CCP jumpering as it can make a difference.
For the surging, doing the basics carefully usually improves it.ie valve clearances and rocker end play followed by careful TB balance.

^ ^ As above - Y-piece gives more mid-range. Get rid of the CCP and set the TPS to 380 - 390mV, surging cured.
