Y piece fitting - help needed please

I’ve recently sold my 2001 GS and bought a nearly new ADV. Yipeee. I took all of the usual goodies of my old one to put on the new one including the Y piece and Remus can. Fitting this and removing it to and from the old one had been a piece of piss. However I’ve just given up trying to fit it to the ADV. Boooh.

Does anyone know for sure if the Y piece should or should not fit? Has the design been changed for the newer bike? There didn’t seem to be any way it was going to fit unless I used far more brute force than I was prepared to. It almost seemed like the pipes on the new bike were ever so slightly wider? I also had to remove the back wheel to get the cat off which I didn’t have to on the older bike. Aaaaargh.

Any help would be well appreciated..

may not be of help but my 52(2003) 1150 when i took the remus off and fitted a cat i bought from the bmf i had to get a friend to bend the pipes out to re fit the cat

so i suspect that the remus was slightly narrower and had bent the pipes in a little , it seems like a lot of force to use but its not gonna do any damage, well in my case it was 5mm

not sure about the rearwheel removal , didnt have to do that , but mine aint an adv so i canna comment

I recently fitted a Y to my ADV.
There was no need to remove the rear wheel and it was quite a job geting the pipes to line up.
I managed in the end with some help from my old friend rubber hammer. I also applied some copper grease.
I did consider loosening the header bolts, which might help.
Two people, one each side would be useful.

I used wet n dry on the downpipe ends that fit into the y peice to really make them smooth, then used holts exhaust sealant stuff which is like grease until it sets. Then a small plank of wood on the end of the y and a METAL hammer. A gentle knock with a metal hammer was better than a thump with a rubber one. It's a bastard but it should go on. Not sure if I would loosen the header bolts, if you snap 'em when you bang the pipe, you could be in deep shit. I'd say they are stronger as they are. Might be totally wrong though Good luck.

Just took the Y-piece off my Adv, its a piece of S**t and the welding cracked, probably the worst piece of engineering ever.

I took my Y piece of my 02 GS and fitted it to my 04 ADV. No need to remove the rear wheel but I did slacken off the header pipe nuts to allow a bit of jiggling.

My advice would be to slacken all fixings to allow the best alignment, including the end can, then when you get it all lined up then you nip all the fixings up.

I was not happy with my first y piece from Remus and got my money back (eventually). I then got a y piece and can from Scorpion near Ripley in Derbyshire. Loads better and nice folks to deal with as well.
