Quick question Ian.
Well 2
1/ Are your Y pieces Stainless
2/ Any plans for Stainless Down pipes in the near future.
thank you.
Yes, we use 304 stainless throughout
We have been asked about pipes- but not in sufficient numbers to justify the development
Are you changing becuase of corrosion or breakage?
Any other others interested?
Can i just confirm that Motad Y collectors are made by us here in the UK- they fit and work well- and if in the rare case of a fitting issue you can speak direct with us- or the man that welded it!- any other similar looking products are NOT Motad and as you have found can cause problems
The influx from the cheap labour markets has caused many similar fitting issues- because these cheap imported products often are just poor copies/rippoffs of the Motad product . with rising costs in china, cheap is now refering to the quality rather than the final price in many cases with "proper" uk stuff being very competitive
Shame you didnt get a chance to fit a Motad- remus I agree is a nice product but its more expensive becuase you are paying for an importer to deliver it and pay the euro price in our very undervalued £!!!- Motad is cheaper because you can buy direct from our dealers or indeed the factory

Hi Ian,
This thread is 1 of 2 (about Y-pieces) that have appeared on the 1150 section in the last week or so. The other one related to problems (melting!) that can occur for users of the OE plastic panniers, if a Y-piece is fitted.
Perhaps you could look at offering as an accessory, an extension pipe to carry the gas past the vulnerable area? I was thinking about something similar to the 'stubby', but with a more moderate bend. Possibly to be retained by spring-clips (there are suitable holes on end cap of standard silencer, to hook into).
I want to fit one of your Y-pieces, but need to get around the above (potential) problem.
B.
How can a Y piece, under the engine cause a pannier, on the side of the bike, to melt. Sometimes I despair at the anal attitude of some posters. If you fit something and it ends up too close to the pannier, its hardly the Y piece, its the fitting. Check the clearance and fit some heat proof tape on the bottom of the pannier, job done and this forum is not full of more shit. Ta![]()

I don't normally go in for the personal abuse stuff. Nope. Still can't be bothered.![]()

We have not had any feedback on melting- and can only assume that the problem is with some of these cheap copies/ripoffs. Excuse my reticence but I dont have a lot of enthusiasm for making extension pieces to rectify some of the counterfeiters problems.(!)
Or is there a real demand for an extension for heavy/hot use of a Motad/ correctly made Y piece?

BTW- looks like with th original downpipes stainless (if if not top grade) there may not be sufficient demand for replacement downpipes
It must be frustrating to have to defend the quaity of your products in this way. Especially when threads are started, naming, but not actually concerning your work.
Aye, and though I did correct myself, it was my mistake, so apologies for that!
(I'd read somewhere that the Sandy Bike Spares were actually Motad stock - turns out that was wrong info)
And as I said, there's plenty a good word said about Motad y-pieces on this forum!
