Is the Y piece De-cat exhaust standard accross the r1150 range.
I fancy a y piece on my 2003 R1150 rockster, I have seen a few on Fleabay but all seem to refer to R1150GS fitment ..... but will they fit the Rockster too :nenau:nenau

yes they are the same

Thanks Moonhead ... I guessed they were but always nice to get it confirmed :thumb2

I've had two y pieces, one from Motad and one from Remus. Both have cracked at some point, but only the Motad one was repairable, and they have made a very good job of it. I seem to recall they charge about £100 new for them. Silencers to fit would be around £85.
No connection, but a very satisfied customer with recent experience of dealing with them :)

x2 mine is motad from motorwork there about £120 now its been on the bike about 6000miles with no problem.

were abouts did yours snap on the motad pipe

I have a Y-piece on mine, but I don't know which it is, Remus I suspect. It was on when I bought the bike 14 years ago and has only covered 100,000 trouble free miles (almost exactly 100,000, because she is just over the 111,000 now).

Obviously, I wouldn't knowingly go back to these folks again with reliability like that.

In my experience, they only crack if the exhaust is incorrectly fitted:nenau

On my Remus y piece the orientation was slightly different compared to oem and I hadn't slackened off the headers to meet this new angle, so forced it and then struggled to get the silencer to fit.
Cracked at one of the welds shortly after.
Re-welded and 80k later still going strong.

Is there any particular reason to fit a Y piece, other than the obvious weight saving over the oem collector box and Cat ?

I'm in the process of fitting a y piece to my 02 gsa! What kinda change in fuel consumption will I expect? What kinda range per tank?? :nenau

Range will fall and consumption will go up (if you make full use of the 'loud' control ie: throttle...) ;)

When I did it with my 1150 , I tried it over the same 100 mile course as standard, cat and remus end can, y piece and standard pipe, y piece and remus end can.
It was quicker with the y piece and which ever silencer was fitted and mpg was better by 2-3 mpg, however, it was too
loud for me with the y piece and remus can and the backfiring on the overrun was horrendous.
Ended up doing 40,000 miles plus with the Remus y piece and standard silencer which I found the best compromise

That's what I'm running now! Today I fitted the y piece and have the original silencer on it! Didn't get out for a spin on it yet tho!!

Exactly my experience as well. The noise was fun for a bit but I use my bike for commuting and the loudness pretty quickly started to grate, particularly at the end of the day. Y and standard silencer suits me more. The only other option I'd go for is standard collector and a stubby.

Just fitted Black Widow Y piece to my 1150 GS spent a week spraying the exhaust clamps with WD 40 that made the job much easier managed to unbolt all three, I was thinking of replacing the end can but I quite like the sound its not much louder just a fatter deeper note.
Visually I think its much better, it looks lighter but I really don't think its noticeable, The cat is so low down on the bike it cannot make any difference to the handling or feel.
