Carrick Yamaha in Edinburgh have a demo Super Tenere for 2 days. I was in yesterday ordering brake pads for my TDM and I've booked a test ride this morning. Anyone interested should phone in and book a time as they only have it today and tomorrow.

I don't think I'll be getting rid of my F800GS, I'd probably swap My TDM for it, but I don't have the £11,500 extra the trade in would cost.:(

I'm not in any way affilliated with Carrick Yamaha, just thought some people here might be interested.

I'm testing one at Ride-On (Glasgow) next Monday - it's there for 6 days until the Saturday. Aim to test a GS12, GS8 and maybe a multistrada & tiger too if I can for comparisons.

I kept it over night 2 weeks ago, but I was away alot since. I really liked it while I was on it, it felt like my TDM only more spacious, but I wasn't so impressed once I rode my TDM the next day. The TDM is lighter, and feels almost as powerful, and mine has Ohlins suspension so it handles alot better. It felt nothing like my 800GS, much heavier, less managable at slow speeds and not as much fun in bends.

The real nail in the coffin was borrowing a 1200GS the following day, it's far lighter, or at least feels it, it's got more grunt and it handles better. And for some bizarre reason the SuperTen is MORE expensive than a GS!

I prefer my 800GS, and my TDM, and if I was looking for a 2 up bike I'd pick the 1200GS over the superTen, it's better and cheaper.

Here's my thoughts. http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=237933

Having more time to reflect on my test ride, I now know that if I was going to sink a big wad of cash into another Adventure type bike, the main reason I'd choose the Yamaha is the reliability aspect (you just know it won't have the problems that have blighted the GS for many people). Otherwise, it'd be a GS every time.

Interesting stuff EmmettC and Dave F, the views of actual folks riding
is always worth while. I wonder when Yamaha changed their "no demo"
bike stance. I guess they realised it is a hell of a lot of cash to put down without a test ride.

The "Adventure" sector definitely seems to be getting lots of attention
which is good to see. Interesting you should mention TDM I was just looking
at one for sale on AdvRider as a possible bike for a upcoming trip.

Cheers

There is also a new Triumph ADV bike coming, because I've also got a Triumph (TBS) and registered with Triumph they send you emails on new developments. This new bike is well in development and might see the light before the year end, it is going to be a triple as you'd expect. I bet its a good one, probably more serious compition to the GS than the recent crop...Ducati & Yamaha (the KTM has always been decent compitition). It would need to be very good to tempt me away from a GS. Mine is 3 now and I was thinking about a K13GT for a change, it is very good....but now thinking about a 30yr anniversarry GS, or just hanging on to it as its been faultless. Anyone want to buy a faultless 2007 GS with all the extras + luggage? :D :thumb

I had the original TDM850 back in 1991. I loved it, infact, I kept it for almost six years and certaintly felt that it didn't deserve its 'Tedium' moniker. Having ridden a TDM900 from Stranrear to Aberdeen recently, I have to say I didn't like it as much as my 850 (worst thing was the truly awful seat).

i agree, I love my 850, I tried a 900 but didn't like it as much. So I put a 900 engine in my 850, best of both worlds.
