I`ve been offered a cheap Yamaha XTZ750 Super Tenere.

Thought it might make a good, cheap green laner and a hack bike.

I`ve ridden with a guy off the site with an XTZ with an 850 TDM engine and it was a great bike and handled the dirt like a champion.

In standard trim, are these any good:nenau

xtz

i had one of these , really liked it ,maintenance is fairly low compared to some, some people allways bring up clunky gearbox, and a bit snatchy, i never felt that. as a hack there a great bike , mine had a dynojet ,plus k&n plus pipe, went really well, seat was hard, but arent they all .iwould definatley have another if it was cheap

I did have a XTZ loved her till we had a big impact with VW car .I think i may still have a rather large copy of the factory manual if anyone intrested .

'Twas me

Hello Sarge,

Twas me on the XTZ850 and it is still going strong (although it is too precious nowadays to be taken out in this crappy weather) Despite being biased, I would say the 750s are fabulous bikes and much underrated.
Mine went all the way to Cape Town overland in 1995, 2up and I genuinely didn't touch a thing all the way down over a year and 15,000 miles and it didn't miss a beat. I just sorted out 20odd punctures and honestly that was it. No oil change, no spark plugs, no nothing
Regulators/rectifiers tend to be a bit of a weak spot so most people carry a spare but that is just about it. There is no protection for the rear subframe so the rear wheel throws up all the crap which eats away at the frame underneath the seat and it can sometimes be a bit of a horror show down there
The engine is much more powerful than an Africa Twin and the only real issue in the bike is wear and tear on the emulsion tubes in the carbs. Once they are replaced, they all run like good 'uns.
Mint ones from Italy go for more than £2500 now, piles of pooh ones go for £600 and an average condition one from the mid nineties should be around £1200
Mine has been through deserts, mud holes and everything in between so yes I would recommend one most definately
Any more questions ,I'd be happy to help - they do come up quite regularly on ebay and on xtz750.com Plastics are near impossible to get hold of now unless you rob a bank but there is a guy in Chile who does good fibreglass replicas (ain't globalization and t'internet great)

Run Away unles you have th eTDM engine box set up the XTZ 750 gearbox was as brittle as a bag of toffee!

If you go to look at one rev it hard under load in first second and third

If it jumps or snatches leave it back and "Ruuuuuuuuuuuuun awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!""""

Bits to repair are £400

I`ve been thinking about this project since we had that great day up in Wales. Loved the bike and would make a great project:thumb

Up for grabs

And it's up for grabs on fleabay if anybody is interested :augie

Bought one in '89 when they came out (the fastest blue one :D). Great bike, good handling, poorish finish, crap brakes.

XTZ water pumps go and emulsify the oil. Also, the emulsion tubes in the carbs are prone to wear.

Bought a cheap one once & wish I'd kept it & put more time into it but it did need a lot doing.
Still have the bash plate hanging on my wall & should get round to advertising it, I s'pose.

Thanks Kenny..... the lad is from Wallasey so he can nip over and take a look.:thumb2

Yep, I have one in my stable currently having it`s carbs cleaned out. When it`s running right, I`ll use it for a while until I scare myself stupid on a forest track somewhere which with my track record, won`t be long:blast

Thread resurrection:)

What are the symptoms of worn Emulsion tubes?

These are the running symptoms of my XTZ750.
Under hard accelaration the power dies off and I have to throttle off to get the revs to build.
Otherwise it runs fine.
