So, heated grips on, heated electric vest on, handlebar muffs on? Just gotta keep riding, right?

String vest. I am Scottish after all....:D

As above...all year round unless there's snow on the ground.....but this year I've got the DRZ for the white stuff so that's sorted :D

Problem with this poll is the wussies won't often come forwards and admit it...but watch out for all the 'flat battery' threads come March ;) ;)

(and count the cars at the regional meets for the next three months   ;) )

Used to do the "all year" commute, 50 miles/day on my 80GS for 8yrs. Got an 1150 & within 3mths was transferred to an office 2 miles from home. Now I use the 250 traillie for commuting & the GS sits in the garage, covered & plugged into the battery tender, to come out whenever I need it/fancy a ride.

Never put off by weather, but hate short journeys. Bring on the snow.........pleeeeeeaase. I want to play & do roosters past all the cars on my way to work. :eyebrow

yep, i'm one of the crazy ones who rides all yr round too. whats the point of having a bike if you're just gonna stick it in a garage and look it?

I commute most days on my AN400 mainly due to the cost, but as I keep telling SHMBO the GS needs at least one run a week during the winter to stop it going stir crazy (especially as it's locked in the garage wiyh my brothers Cobra).

Come the rally season and the GS (and us) will be away every other weekend.

All year round, and in the snow! don't like the ice though.

It's worth going the extra mile and getting a full jacket with elements in the sleeves, I find I can keep the grips on low in the coldest weather cos blood keeps flowing. Full power to the grips (specially in the wet) can lead to blisters.

Hard as nails -but with respect for technology

Sounds good. I admit I don't know anything about heated clothing. I do have the extra auxilliary plug fitted at the front of thebike so I guess all I have to do is plug myself in. Which jacket would you recommend?

Wass all this about heated vests n stuff eh?! Gert nancies ;) what`s wrong with a woolly jumper and a scarf? :D Might even get out the special socks if there`s ice about. Sowesters over the top keeps the drafts out and doing 30mph everywhere reduces the wind chill factor. Winter, what winter? :D

I ride my GS all year round if the weather is fine.

Interested to know peoples definition of "FINE" as above?:sunshine

mud plugging

Well, eer, not raining or snowing with a dry road and not too cold, probably double figures 10c+ :D

Thanks Bob, wet &/or below ten, glad we`ve cleared that one up.:D

Leccy jacket recommendations

I've got a Gerbing heated jacket liner, cost £150. Heat controller (necessary cos it's too hot without!) another £40. Jacket comes with direct wire-in to battery terminals lead (easy job) and/or BMW accessory socket lead available -£10- for pillion or self.

M&P stock them nationally

They're the dogz....

revolutionised my winter 150 miles commutes to west Wales, I now arrive warm and relaxed rather than hypothermic and knackered.:D

Cogs, one more question. How bulky are they and do you still wear the thermal liner in your jacket.

Cheers. Bob.

Bob,

The Gerbing is "Waffur thin" (apols 2 MP fans). Two layers of smooth pertex-type nylon sandwiching antimony elements. I manage to get it under my Toerag AND liner and over a sweatshirt. You can also get trousers, socks (Please Santa?) and fully armoured gloves that plug in at the waist and cuffs.

BTW I don't work for/have any connection with.... just love em

To contiue the thread hijack I've had a Gerbing jacket for a year now and this weekend on a 500 mile weekend into the Peaks it and the more recently acquired heated gloves meant warm and toast despite sub-zero temperatures and far worse chill factor. I can see me seeking out trousers and socks at some point too.

Warm hands and body is great but then you identify an area still feeling the cold and despite the pots my feet could do with some heat.

10% discount available to sponsors if you go direct to Terry Salter @ Gerbing UK (see discounts thread).

Getting back on topic, all year round - snow and Ice are the exception. My garage is on a slope downhill to the road and I live on a no-through road which never sees salt. That more than anything determines whether the bike comes out or not.
