Yellow non bluetooth Gs911

Hi,

I'm ndertaking a big refurb of my 110,000 mile 2007 R1200 GS.

I've been lucky enough to receive a yellow GS911. I just have a couple of questions if anyone might entertain me?

I'm going to meet a guy in the morning to buy an old windows XP laptop with dreadful battery life but according to him works fine. I expect this will be sufficient to run the software?

I've downloaded the legacy GS-911 downloader.

So, do I need to connect the laptop to the internet?
If the unit was registered to a previous owner (it was / is ) do I have to get it deregistered?
Once everything talks together once, can I use it offline?

Sorry, I'm sure they are very basic questions but I'd like this to go as smoothly as possible. Any tips / reassurance would be most appreciated.

I should remember what I did with my 2006, but sadly...
I seem to recall that it needed to be registered, connected by cable to the computer, and then it automatically connected to the internet (?)
What I do recall is that I sent various seemingly basic questions which they promptly responded to, once they realised I was a bit thick!

XP laptop will be fine to run it - but if you can power it from the mains it would be better so you don’t lose power half way through changing something on the GS911.
