Move back to Scotland, contribute to the Scottish economy, be part of the solution, get the right to vote.

Live abroad (and I include the rest of the UK in this) - then lose the right to say what happens in a country you've abandoned.

Equally simple answer for you, I'd love to. Interesting theory of yours - move abroad to work, keep family in Scotland = abandonment?

Obviously no point discussing this with you - you have your ideas (and such an eloquent way of expressing them) and I have mine, which is what democracy is all about.

If you own a house in Scotland, pay council tax and are on the electoral roll why can't you vote. Is it not possible to work out of the country and still be a resident?

To the Yes men, I'm still waiting for these shining beacons of socialist governed countries that may be used to persuade me that a socialist Scotland wouldn't be a bankrupt Scotland ten years later with the middle income families bailing out by the thousand to protect what little they have scrimped and saved towards their retirement.

There are certain elections that you are allowed to vote in, either with a postal or a proxy vote, but sadly it was decided that this wasn't one of them. I would happily have flown back home if required just to cast my vote, but even that wouldn't work.

That's a bugger isn't it! Don't worry though, despite Salmond trying the rig the vote by including children it's still likely to be a resounding No. A recent debate I attended on the independence issue included dozens of school children entitled to vote. All but two said they would vote No.

I've just been given sight of a secret SNP document which proposes that in the event of a successful YES vote, we should engage upon a programme of political cleansing. Right wingers, in this case, would be deported to the Siberian salt mines or possibly used as bait in recreational hunting games. This is a good thing..... :D

...that a number of votes (mostly in the 'no' camp) are from members with their marked location outwith Scotland.

Now, unless you actually do qualify to vote in the up and coming independence referendum, and maybe are not really located in Leeds, or Northern Ireland for example .... thats cheating a little and does not do anything to help your cause, does it? :rob

This for our family and friends north of the border is the final straw listening to eckies mob haranging the BBC's Andrew Marr then this guy an MP, Pete Wishart, claimed that there would be “consequences” what a shower if this is the world of the SNP heaven help us if we have to live under this mob. Who will be a Scottish citizen?

British citizens living in Scotland on day one of independence and Scottish born British citizens living outside Scotland will be automatically considered Scottish citizens on independence.

After independence, children born in Scotland, and children born outside Scotland to at least one parent who has Scottish citizenship, will be automatically considered to be Scottish citizens.

A person who has a parent or grandparent who is eligible to be a Scottish citizen, will be able to register as a Scottish citizen by descent.

Scottish citizens will also be EU citizens. Scotland will also allow dual citizenship, so, for example, enabling people to hold Scottish citizenship and citizenship of the rest of the UK.

Interesting, this...although English, I could well be resident in Scotland by day one of independence (our son lives in Edinburgh, we're planning a change) so could claim presumably dual citizenship. Our other son (lives in London, never been to Scotland) could then claim dual citizenship by descent. He'd probably do it. Why not?

I see the issues with the EU have all been overcome. Must have missed that in the news. Excellent.

Haven't felt entitled to contribute to this thread but as I'm about to have a Scottish son and probably dual citizenship, I thought I should.
