As I rode around the dales on Sunday after Dent I saw some of the guys & gals doing this.

Now I like a Sportive & I like to cycle up a hill or 2 but as I passed them doing the ride I thought "That looks horrible".

Oh my. 110 miles up & down those hills? Very fit people.

I saw one lad going up a hill (walking) just after the downhill bit from Malham Tarn & he looked fooked then. He was a big chap, not tall - big.
I did sympathise with him knowing what he still had to do; from what I saw he was the last one still on the road.

I had a day off last Tuesday and rode 110km (never mind miles) in the Dales and was fubared thanks to a combination of very strong headwinds in Wharfdale (hence the low average speed) and the big climbs at Arncliffe Cote and "The Struggle" out of Settle

It's still a great way to explore the backroads, but when I go for my 100 mile day this year I think I'll do it somewhere flatter :P

Bit of a love/hate relationship with cyclists in the Dales. I'm increasingly coming across more and more of them riding two abreast on roads where it's then impossible to overtake without a high risk to me or the cyclist, you can rev your engine or sound the horn and all you'll get is a smart two finger salute !!....also some of them coming down hills at a good old lick...."straightening the road"....causing me to nearly go into the edge to miss them !!

Bit like dangerous motorcyclist but if you hit a cyclist you'd be hung drawn and quartered :blast

I frequently share your frustrations as a biker :thumby: But some car drivers are just impatient and make some very dangerous overtakes - it's unusual for me to complete my 5 miles cycle to work without at least one incident

Hi Bill

Check out The Lawrence Dallaglio Slam . Steve, who you met at the winter weekend meet, is a group leader doing all 3 weeks :clap
