I am travelling from Harrogate to Stranraer and would like to traverse the Dales in the most interesting way although time is tight as I must be in Stranraer by 2pm on the day of travel. Cany anyone suggest an interesting route.

I was up there last weekend.Scenic route!
From Harrogate,up the A1 to the A68 Corbridge turn-off.
A68 for about 10 miles then the A689 Wolsingham,Stanhope,Alston,Slaggyford.
M6, then A75,Annan,Dumfries,Castle Douglas and then, if you have time,A713 to New Galloway and A712 to Newton Stewart, back on to the A75 and Stranraer.
Cheers.

To Stranraer very scenic

Try this route very scenic minimum of A roads but if the weather is s**t not far to get back on the A roads and make up time.
I am about 14 miles from Bolton Abbey and using this route the same from Bolton Abbey North in March this year took me about 5 hours in all with a stop for brekkie in Kirkby Stephen and a coffee in New Galloway.

Thanks for the route. Beautiful scenery although it seemed to take me longer so I hit the M6 at Penrith. I will return someday to do it at my leisure. Harrogate also impressed. Thanks again.

Glad you enjoyed it I have just been to your neck of the woods last week well across to Ardara in Donegal then down the west coast and along the south coast as far as Cork. Interesting! roads cracking scenery didn't see Conomara as it was persisting it down so hard the vision was down to 50 yards, but apart from that excellent week.
