So, How are we getting on with it? not yet downloaded and wondering if it will be just another thing to learn without any benefit. Anyone any experience of pictures? (or whatever the photo app is called) Cheers:beer jug:John B

I like it
for me the I cloud drive is useful as i can work on mac book anywhere i have internet without clogging the Hard drive

Best feature is the sync across all iDevices, for which you don't need iCloud if you don't want to. In fact, if you do want to sync pictures and you've upgraded iDevices to IOS8, you have to upgrade to Yosemite. Part from that, slightly different look (looks a bit softer, I think) but you soon get used to it. No major problems that I can see, apart from my Canon software doesn't run on it yet, but that's a Canon issue.

I'm liking the ability to message/text non Apple users :thumb2

Also good to work on the same document across different devices.

Had another big update this morning :nenau

how do you set that up please? 2 macs with Yosemite then iPhones and iPads on IOS8 but haven't found the sync yet.

Thanks in advance

PITA

my phone rang a few minutes ago, so i answered it, then my iMac starts ringing as i'm talking :blast

all devices need to be synced, but they're not. it happens to worse degree with my phone and iPad. messages are worse and can come in minutes apart.

just WTF would i want to answer the phone with my mac anyway? :nenau

I like the phone on the Mac feature and use it a fair bit when I want to carry on working on something whilst talking (work stuff mostly).

The only issue I've had it some Adobe Elements features have stopped working. TBH though I've not investigated, it (Elements) may need an update or reloading? Other than that I'm liking it :)

On the Mac, go to system preferences>icloud, make sure that everything you want synced is ticked. On the iDevice, go to settings>icloud and do the same - everything should now sync.

Downloaded and now Elements works properly again.......strange as I thought the update was to do with improved wifi stability?

there's usually quite a few undocumented fixes with OS-X updates. i guess apple doesn't want, or can't be bothered, to fess up to them :)

Going back to the question in the original post: my understanding is that "Photos" for OS X is still in beta testing and is unlikely to be available to joe public until Spring'15.
- not sure what is causing the delay as they clearly expected to release it earlier judging by its presentation at the same time as Yosemite
