You all told me.....

I’m inclined to disagree with regard to a gel seat.
It’s like the best motorcycle seats-the ones you sit on and they instantly feel comfy, within an hour or two they’ve normally given up on the support and are shite.
The seat that you sit on and think, ‘wow that’s a bit firm’, that’s the seat you want for all day comfort.
The Renazco I had on my 950SE never felt ‘comfy’, but never felt uncomfy and I could ride all day over 500 miles without an ache.It was so good that I’ve got one coming for my Husky.
Anyway, back to the e-mtb issue.

The Selle I have on my e-mtb looks very uncomfy but is designed to support your arse bones and let you breathe.
It’s so much better than the OE seat that my bike came with.

I mentioned this above but Nutty has ignored it.
He’ll get a seat that looks comfy and then find out it’s not....just like he ignored all the advice to get a full sus e-mtb , when he bought that hybrid that cost him £100s in wasted cash.....

I agree with you Martin!

Moving back to a real bike (one with an engine); I have a Corbin solo seat on my '95 H-D FXSTC (Softail Custom to those that don't know) and it looks and feels hard but I've ridden it day after day after day for average of 500 - 600 miles / day and it's as comfy as a comfy thing.

Yup, my Le Pera on my RKS doesn’t feel soft but is so comfy, not that I’ve done a long day on it yet ,but I just know it’ll be good.

I see Nutty has ordered a seat. It’ll be something that looks comfy,I guarantee it.
And a high chance it won’t be !!

Wrong, yet again.

Muppet.

Many, Many years ago

A friend decided to do the Maracycle in Ireland. Belfast to Dublin. Circa 160km.
This was an annual event with thousands taking part.
Before he left Belfast, he put a new saddle on his bike.
By the time he got to Drogheda (3/4 distance) he was in absolute agony.
Asked a colleague what to do.
Friend told him to get a sanitary towel, coat it in vaselene and stick it into his crack.
He met up with his wife and asked her for one. She handed him a Tampax.

I did say it would get you by until you can get the correct measured seat! :blast

Right chaps, I need a new saddle. My arse is red raw, and I’m not convinced the razor blade saddle is doing my back any favours either. Has anyone here gone for anything more comfortable, that doesn’t stand out like a sore thumb?

FFS Rich, stop whining, it's all part of the transition into a "proper cyclist" :D

Arses are like concrete - they need to harden up a bit!!!

Of course you need to find a saddle that fits you well (and that's a personal thing as others have pointed out), but even then if you're going to do big distances (time) on a bike saddle then you basically have to smash all the soft tissue and little nerve endings to pieces (that's why it hurts) and then your body will repair the damage and eventually you'll develop an arse like a rhinoceros and all will be fine.

I used to do 400+miles per week and it took a few months (and one nasty boil ) to get a proper tough bum. I've got friends who do that over a long weekend and they have all been through the "tenderisation process".

Oh and another thing, stop using Aveeno on yer bum, it's shit at protecting you! What you need is a good pair of cycling shorts with a proper pad and a large tub of Sudacrem. That works a treat at stopping infections and is much cheaper than the stuff from Assos etc.

Good luck chap! :beerjug:

Something that's often overlooked, in my experience, buy cheap buy twice when it comes to bib shorts, and note I said bib, just padded shorts alone won't cut IMO.

Spot on! :thumb2

I used to buy Assos stuff (bloody expensive) but then moved to this guy in Manchester: https://www.lusso.bike/

Highly recommended (and made in UK!)

Good points there Toddy, but I’m a softie, so need comfort! :comfort :D

Will see how the ISM seat & shorts go tomorrow, but I do have a full length bib already, so wanted some shorts instead. If they don’t cut the mustard, I’ll go for some bib shorts instead. :thumb

You're a slow learner aren't you, despite the good advice you get from those who have experience, oh well. :hippy

What are you on about? I researched saddles online, read loads of reviews from different forums & websites, then spoke to my chiropractor who cycles all over Europe competitively, and he recommended the ISM.

You’re doing an Arsey and jumping to conclusions without any facts again.

You need to visit Specsavers old chap. I’ve already mentioned that I have a bib.

Indeed you did, though you then went on to say you wanted to try shorts instead, which is cool but from experience I've found that padded shorts are very uncomfortable and suspect you'll find this out also and then go and purchase a pair of bib shorts.

Never been able to figure out

Why someone fits a razorblade instead of a saddle and then has to wear the padding that should be in the saddle in their clothing.

Will see how the combo feels tomorrow. I don’t find my bib any better than not wearing it at all tbh, so will see how the padded shorts fare. Returns are free, so it’ll be trial and error.
