Whenever I try and post on a thread that's heavy on YT vids, my PC slows down to a total crawl

It feels (from the HD activity light and other signs) that it's trying to cache the vids from the whole thread, but it just sticks solid and I have to CTRL ALT DEL out of it.....really frustrating 'cos I have half a dozen triplets of tracks that I'd love to add to the 'give us three tracks' thread :(

Ideas please?

I thought that whacking ESC stopped cache loading of videos etc, but it seems to make no difference :(

I'll be the first to say it .

Get a MAC

Yup.

If I wanted to be a twat, wear silly specs, not be able to upgrade my machine for 5 years until the basic infrastructure was redundant, If I wanted to be a fashion victim who waits outside a shop for 12 hours awaiting a new release of the same old same old, If I was prepared to accept that the Apple site was unavailable for 24 hours because you just have to wait and see what we're doing to it, If I was prepared to pay STUPID prices for over designed crap that didn't work like I wanted it to, and have to accept that it was just the Apple way and it was my fault I wanted more, and if I never wanted to open up my box and improve it with any part from any manufacturer without any problems,

I'd get a Mac :beerjug:

However......... ;)

However......... ;)

.......if you just wanted a computer that worked and did what you wanted it to, when you wanted it to without having to wait for it to do it and to continue working as well as that for a long time and be well built, reliable and worth the high price you'd have to pay for it at the outset...........you'd get a Mac. :thumb

Mac V pc twaddle aside, I'm hoping someone may have an idea why a thread with lots of embedded YT stuff is slow.

TBH, now I've reflected upon it, I suspect I may not have the very latest plugins, as I did a fresh W7 install last week.

Macs do sweet FA that is of any value over and above what a well built, well configured PC does......my issue here is almost certainly down to me rushing to get back and running after a disc failure rather than any system failure.

If you haven't already try chrome. Many plugins come with it built in so if it runs better with that then your machine probably needs the plugins updated

Ok don't say we didn't tell you so though when you realise how better the MAC is .

Ive yet to find a well built PC even spending Mac type money on so called quality components. Each time at about 3 years old the mother boards have thrown one. First one was main memory slots, second was the main processor mount, third was a laptop with disc access problems despite a new hard disc.

Last summer, with a heavy report banging up against the deadline, MS Word crashing every 5 mins and the MB locking out everything except memory, I bought a MacBook and have not looked back. Its cost was little more than an top end PC with too many bells and whistles. Its still worth 50% of what I paid which is 100% note than any of the PC laptops would be worth. Best of all I got the job done - and it was worth every penny for that alone.

Do I like Apple with all its "we run your life for you - for your safety" crap? Of course not, but at least it works.

Yup.

If I wanted to wear a twat suit, a fashion victim who waits outside a shop for 12 hours awaitiing the service dept to open, If I was prepared to acceept that "they all do that sir" and the panniers were unavailable for 24 weeks because "you just have to wait and see what we're doing to it", If I was prepared to pay STUPID prices for over designed crap that didn't work like I wanted it to, and have to accept that it was just the way and it was my fault I wanted more, and if I always wanted to open up my gearbox and repair it with any part from any manufacturer without any problems,

I'd get a Toilet :beerjug:

However.........I've got an 1150 ;)

Fixed

I'm sure you have done this already but clear cache, restart browser, try again. Try different browser, as suggested, chrome or firefox. Check pc version of activity monitor (sorry, don't know what pc equivalent is) to see what is happening when you try to open this thread?

best advice I can offer :)

You need a SSD drive :beerjug:

I've got an SSD drive :)

On the last re-install of windoze, I made sure I kept it as clean as poss, free from junk, with my AV stuff etc running from another drive.

(apart from Skyrim, which I confess resides nicely on the SSD :D)

Clearing the cache doesn't make any difference, nor does ctrl alt del and closing odd applications or background progs.

I suspect that for some reason, the PC is pre-fetching the videos :blast

I have a day off tomorrow so if I get a chance, I'll have a good root under the bonnet :)
