Hi everyone another help me spend my money thread :) had 6 years on sportsbikes and rd 350 lc's just turned 26 and getting my adventuring boots back on

been down to a few beemer dealers today looking at the lc and the twin cam 1200's

main trips I'm planning on doing is Norway, Iceland (Denmark to see family) and love to do Switzerland still got my fireblade and 350 lc in addition for fast road stuff at home:D would love to do a bit of off roading,

main questions if anyone can steer a newbie in the right direction,

fuel range wise on the normal one how does it do for those sort of trips or am i better getting a twin cam adv and stretch the budget for the bigger tank range or are garages frequent enough over there ,

off road wise on the normal gs wet head, good enough for the job? at hand hoping not to much off road stuff at first but would be nice to get of the beaten track a bit :)

got 6k so rest on finance so trying not to go to crazy haha just over the 11k mark hence leaning towards the normal gs but maybe in the enduro spec for the spoke wheels? did like the sound of the dynamic esa though if I could find one with that specced on maybe?

or is it worth spending the extra and getting a adventure either the twin cam air cooled or the water cooled, for the farkles that come on them standard or does alot end up swapped off for other stuff?

nav 5 watched a few vids of all the info you can pull up on it does this work on the twin cams as well?

all pretty new to me but my mate is always waxing lyrical about how brilliant they are and seem spot on for lugging my photography kit (day job)

Massive thanks in advance,

Tom

been having a look at a few online :)

Thinking twin cam gs adventure about 9-10k?

Water cooled normal gs 2014 11-12k

and a adventure water cooled about 13k

Probably pushing it for the adventure water cooled unless I stretched a bit,

So if you were to choose between the twin cam say with 18k on one or a normal water cooled lc, anyone gone from the twin cam to the liquid cooled gs? and had the liquid cooled gs of road? :) or is the differnce negligible keep reading differnt things on old posts confused me haha hoping to do pretty serious milage on whatever I get daily to work and long evening and weekend trips as well as euro say split 80% paved initialy

Cheers,

Tom

My advice....................buy a 1200 tenere and get it remapped :D

Hi Tom,

My advice, having been a twin cam and a watercooled owner is to go for a Twin cam GSA, that is if you're convinced that it's a BMW that you want ?
Whilst the WC may on paper be quicker, in the real world it's going to take you exactly the same amount of time to get from A-B on either bike.
In my opinion the TC was a much nicer bike to ride and own, sadly I myself was seduced by the WC's perceived performance after a test ride, but lived to very much regret my decision to swap.

I now own a Moto Guzzi Stelvio which I absolutely love, but if I where in your position and wanting to do a fair bit of 'Off roading' I'd without doubt be looking at the KTM 1190 Adventure R. A very nice one can be had for 10k.

Good luck with your search.

Steve

Hi Lads thanks for the replies :)

Been doing some reading up and that seems to be the concensus Steve, really fancying the twin cam and the lc is just to much at the moment

actually going to look at a mates twin cam tonight things happen fast haha fingers crossed anything to be aware of when they are at 22k mileage?

Cheers,

Tom

was intersting :) to see and hear one running,

just weighing up between a normal gs, with spoked wheels If i can find one twin cam, or a adv :D choices leaning heavily to the twin cam though just which one now ^^

Cheers,

I settled on a 2012 TC with 9k miles on it for £9k a few months ago. Very happy with the decision.

Having now done a couple of thousand miles on it I'm just starting to work out what I like and what I don't like. Overall a fantastic bit of kit, absolutely love it. The only real criticism I have is you need to take two handfuls to twist the throttle all the way back so I have a quick action throttle on order for it. I think it's going to pay a visit to Hilltop as well, not because it needs more power but because the threads on here have made me paranoid about under fuelling and air/fuel ratios. And I hope it might make it a little less vibey.

It's a bit like driving a Range Rover. It's not about getting there 5 minutes faster, it's more about the journey and getting there refreshed and comfortable.

I have not ridden an LC, but I'm more than happy with the TC.

I think wrinkleyowlie was right, the TC is a great bike, the LC nearly seduced me with a test ride, its certainly seems nippier and lighter on the top and probably faster but its a lot more dosh. The TC remains a very solid and well proven bike,,,, I hope so anyway as we are off to Spain in the morning!

Tell that to the poor guys who ended up on an AA truck :D

awesome thanks everyone some really great opinions and really do appreciate them my heads done in a bit haha, as I sat on a few today loved the Narrowness of the new LC, but how reliable thats the only thing nagging me lol,

as much as I wanted to love the twin cam adventure felt a big girl in the showroom might be something I'd get used to though :D

so sort of narrowed it down now to the twin cam standard gs with spokes, or the new lc gs

lots of thinking ahead

Cheers,

Tom

Why have you rules out the KTM? You'll no doubt get a better deal and more dynamic ride from the katoom, it'll probably be more reliable too.

Haha aye yep don't smoke haha do bit of my pipe yet haha

Just waiting on some info on pricing between the normal Gs LC and the adv, so many different options haha which one did you have mate :)

Ive had two twin cam gs adventures, mine is a standard gs in the watercooled, but am tempted by the gsa myself. The standard gs will do around 200 miles to a tank, up to 250 touring. Mines doing 53mpg on the computer. Best bet is to get yourself some test rides.

Cheers everyone :) very much looking forward to getting one sorted is a tricky decision haha

been running the numbers would love a lc gsa but just to far money wise,

so firmly between a lc te spec, or a twin cammer haha :D
