A friend has asked me to keep his bike for a while while he is away in Thailand. He also would like me to give it a clean and a wee spruce up and ready it for his return.

Think it'll take long ?

That looks like it only has about 354miles on the clock, do you ever ride it!?!?!?!?

I'm actually scared my LC is heading the same way........................

Yup, virtually every day on my huge commute of 5 miles each way. The only time I don't ride is generally if it is nice weather and I fancy peddling my bicycle or if I have something to big too collect after work to fit on the bike.

I must admit that bikes get a pretty easy life on the island as we cannot sustain any speed which is likely to kick up debris stones etc. I do appreciate this after my bi annual trips to France where it has much more ingrained dirt to get off afterwards.

I don't even clean it every week. Honest. Normally every other week. It lives in a drafty garage which, in my opinion, is good as the dampness dries off quickly when parked up after a wet ride.

Just done 13,000 miles.

Thats fucking shocking though isnt it. what is it 08, seems like the paint around that time was happy shopper own brand.
I put an o8 engine in mine after i killed the original and that had bad corrosion.

Third picture down clearly shows its a twin cam so at least a 2010. Keep up dear boy:P

I'm just off to get a life.........

Is this the triple black you posted on another thread?

That is bad to be fair - maybe mine would look like that without ACF50! I have a few furred fasteners and a couple of spots of engine paint that I can feel has started bubbling. Similar mileage, used all year for commuting etc

Despite how bad it looks, it rides great. I was out on it yesterday and it reminded me just how nice the auld hexheads go.

Not exactly an auld hexhead though, Davy. It's a twin cam; so, at the most it's only 5 years old. It looks like he's ridden it through the winter and not washed it very often.

Apparently, He rode it through winter, then put it away for two years without washing it.
I think it's 2011.
Whatever one it is, still goes well. :aidan

I'm actually considering not taking this on, it's just so bad.

My 08 (used in all weathers) was in a sorry state. Frame paint pretty much gone and engine covers looking awful. Thankfully the main engine and gearbox cases were ok.
Check the front cover top were it's totally hidden by the belt cover. It won't get much road salt in there but tell that to the corrosion.

Well I've had a good think about this one and I really can't afford to take it on. It'd be relatively easy to slap some paint on to cover the worst, but that's not going to address the problems or make the bike more valuable. It needs a total strip down and restoration, which the owner won't want to pay for.

Frightening to see how bad they can go if not looked after !
Religiously ACF50'd my 2010 twin cam GSA every winter since I got it, & even then there's few furred up bolts & frame rust - but nothing like that.
Even so, the rocker covers were changed under warranty at just under 2 years because the paint was bubbling like those in the photo
Mine's done 29,000 miles now & coming up to 5 years old, plus ridden through every winter so I suppose I've got to expect a bit of damage
