YSS or Rebuild?

Ok as per title. Just had an advisory on mot regarding rear shock misting past seals. I’m well aware of TTech but am also considering getting a new YSS rear replacement, don’t want to stretch to Ohlins, Wilbers etc so what would my best course of action be, get the YSS or rebuild the original BMW shock? It’s non esa etc so just the basic shock. Thanks.

Ok just looked on YSS site and they don’t do a shock for a GS Adventure so it’s rebuild time!

I would ask the advise of T Tec.
I had a YSS on my airhead within very little milage ,although the date meant the warranty had expired the chrome on the piston rod flaked in one small place and destroyed the seal.
The supplier could not help and wanted to sell me another shock.
Lucas at T Tech had the shaft re chromed and rebuilt the shock.
I would not be surprised if the stock shock after a rebuild was better than a YSS.

10 minutes to answer your own Q. T-Tech sounds like a good plan.

Presumably the shock is actually misting. Advisories are an opinion, an observation in the moment, so not necessarily factual.

There must be thousands of used rear shocks at breakers/eBay. Might be worth getting one while your shock is rebuilt (or just stick with the used one if in very good condition)

Consider Hagon. Have them on my Hexhead, after 50k miles of use the rear was leaking and both looked well past it.

Sent them back to Hagon for a rebuild, this is how they came back, I was well impressed. £160 per shock with a 2year warranty.

I’d hazard a guess that there’s a few new or nearly new shocks in peoples garages as they swap for “better “ stuff. JJH

Rebuild - Lukaz.
He’ll spec how you want it, high quality and much cheaper than after market.
