Battery not holding a charge after 18 months of daily use

anyone managed to squeeze a ytx16-bs onto a 2010 GSA sizes are 152*88*161

compared to 152 *88*147 on the ytx14-bs

only 15mm extra height looks doable given i ride with the seat in the highest position

be very careful to make absolutley sure that the seat adj bar clears the terminals, even if the terminal covers are on if it touches with any force it may short out.dont even start to ask how i know.

Their was a thread somewhere on this site about replacing the front seat bar with two short pieces i.e the bar doesnt go right across and foul the battery terminals ,its quite easy to do cheers Pete

The seat bar, whether in high or low position, goes into the locating lugs, ie it makes no difference to clearance above the terminals.

Bin Ridin given you did this 2 years ago, was it a worthwhile mod in retrospect, how has the battery stood up to the job

Hi, the reason for looking for a better battery was that this bike would occasionally crank slowly and it seemed like an intermittent battery problem. checked all the usual, and went to the 16 instead of 14, would have preferred an odyssey but not available. Anyhow....later it became clear that the intermittent slow cranking was happening when the sidestand was down. I did not get to the bottom of it, sold the bike to a guy here in Riyadh and bought him a sidestand switch to fit at his leisure. I don't think he has fitted it yet.
So, the battery was ok and I would not bother with a bigger one. An Odyssey would be worth it for cold weather. My Riyadh bike is kept indoors so it is not a feature here. Bin
