Hi everyone.

First snowfall today with more in the forecast. Bike riding is done. Got my oil changed for the winter lay up and now need to help the battery during its winter hibernation. Have successfully used a Yuasa Smartshot 900 on my 2003 BMW 650 for several years; will it work OK with my '08 1200 GS? Can I connect it through the power outlet or directly to the battery (connected or disconnected?).

Any comments gratefully received etc etc.

Hi Nick, not quite shure as to what a Yuasa Smartshot 900 is or what it does, but for a definate prolonged layup I would be thinking of "removing" the Battery from the Bike, giving it a full charge then storing in a cool dry place, with mayby the occasional charge between now and the Spring.

Try it straight on the battery, 900mA is a modest charge rate, but should be more than enough to keep the battery happy over winter.

Personally I'd not bother disconnecting the battery from the bike, but I can see no harm in doing that if you want to remove the battery and keep it somewhere warmer.
