Evening all,

New to all this GSin, and need to ask a question.
Seen a really nice exhaust by Zard and fancy one.
Coming from those highly strung Ducati beasts where you need to change everything to suit an end can, can i just get one and bung it on a GS? Does it need airbox/filter mods and ecu reprogramming to work, or is it just plug and play?

Anyone else have this exhaust?

No but very nice, you may want to also ask if panniers will still fit.

It says so, really need to get my bike first before i start spunking money on exhausts. But you have to look don't you? 9 days and counting.

Good morning....Whay you want to know about the Zard exhaust??

I have it for more than a month on my 2006 GSA. I installed the satin road-legal can. I changed also the pipes with Keihan pipes. The results are....AMAZING!!!
I drove the bike with OEM system....with the Keihan pipes only and full.....I am really amazed with the outcome... the noise is low before 4000rpm...its more heavy....but as soon as you pass the 4000rpm the noise is like race off-road "machine-gun"....the noise different from the usual Akrapovic sound. Personally I really like it....:drool:thumb:thumb2:thumb

Also ...the can can be inside the original GSA frame as I use it when I am riding away from Liverpool in order to protect the exhaust from a possible fall..(nice moto but really heavy...:augie)

zard

Have full zard systerm on 07 gsa love it has a sound of its own lost baffle really loud but nice not every ones cup of tea,had it on my 05 gs then put it on my gsa not seen a one else with one so no dont get one lol it is loud

Cheers for the replies guys, getting tempted! Plan to keep the standard headers, is it bearable with the baffle in for long distance? My other bike is a Ducati 749 with a full 54mm termi system so i'm used to a good dose of loud, but don't need a full volume on those 500 mile days.

If it's only the noise you are after, the end can will do the job nicely. It won't however give you much, if any at all, power hike.

You need de catted headers to achieve a noticable power hike and improvement in performance :thumb

I think i want the penny and the bun! I do want more noise, (And who says no to more power!) but as it's my touring/distance bike i don't want to make it mega thirsty as a result. I think some sort of balance between the two will have to be saught. :nenau

The best option seriously is new headers. You get a power hike of approx 5hp, much more low down torque, crisper throttle response and and a deeper exhaust note as a bonus. There are no changes to the fuel consumption with new headers apart from the fact you will want to ride the bike harder becauase it feels soooo much better:thumb

You guys are in danger of costing me serious money! Which headers are recommended? Zard or other?

If you search in the forum you will find many suggestions about headers.....

but...as always there is a "but".... I can suggest the Keihan headers, as there are the ones that I have on my "german girl"....they have the middle connection pipe....meaning balancing the gasses and have better response in the low-mid range ....don't forget that it is a touring machine....same diameter with the original one....they are british ....and there is a guy in the forum that always can help you with them...(correct me if I am wrong Sgt Bilco..)

I have to admit to supplying the keihans which are a great piece of kit. They are the same dimensions as the OE headers and we retain the balancer pipe.

You can give me a call on 07766554069 or e-mail [email protected] and I can supply you loads more details:thumb

none of you have obviously heard a GS with 'race can' ride past you.

they sound SHIT.

they honestly sound like a farting pig being squeezed, if you dont believe me, ask mateyboy with one, or anyone else who has one, to ride along side you.
no good hearing it sat on its sidestand. car drivers will laugh just as everyone in my wagon did as one passed us the other week.

whats the reason for wanting a 'race can' on a adventure bike?

you gona race it?

no, stick to the original, save your money and buy something that will actually make the bike better, like suspension, that will make you faster for the races you want.

I have an R1200S with Bos headers and a Zard can - it sounds awesome.
I know someone with an 1150 and it doesn't sound as good. Maybe the different top end set up and inlets makes all the difference. ?.

The plan for my R1200GS is either Keihan or Akrapovic headers (once I decide if the Akra's are worth the £160 extra) and then to run that through a titanium Micron Delta+ can. I was able to compare a load of cans on a stand in a shop recently and can say that the simplicity and rebuildability of the Micron put it at the top of the list. It was also the lightest can by far - even lighter then a Remus titanium Hexacone.

Cheers for all the comments and forthright yorkshire opinions all. Going to have a serious look at this in the new year, I originally just wanted loud, but talking to another owner recently they described a full system as like taking the handbrake off. Things have just got more expensive!:blast
