Just got a Zumo 400 from one of our parishoners.

Question 1:
Needs map update, since a bit screwed up, so going for Lifetime Europe. That okay?

Question 2:

Lifetime Europe is 3Gb but the Zumo 400 has had a firmware update to take this but if I buy a 4Gb card with 'HC' will it still be useable by the unit? It's almost impossible to get a plain SD 4Gb these days.

I have tried an 8Gb HC in the memory card slot (from my camera) and it worked okay could see all my pics no problem. Can I assume that HC is okay then?

Garmin site only states 'SD 4Gb' larger capacity will slow down the mapping.

Any help in this area will be much appreciated.:thumb2

For the Record

Thanks for the help

After Googlin' till I'm :barf

Can give some information to the forum - if you care :blagblah

Q1: Lifetime updates does the lot: City streets main roads quiet roads and including a lot of unpaved ones......

Q2: 4GB 'HC' seems to work fine - class 4 variety used.

I registered the Zumo with a 'MyGarmin account' Garmin offered 10% off any maps and accessories for one purchase only. fine. Takes the LIFETIME map updates to about £68. What's a few quid here and there.
It's for LIFE anyway.....

Process
Downloaded the lot to the computer.

Put Britain on the Zumo, now completely full.
Then put rest of Europe, well most of it on the card.
As much as I need for Europe trip.
Can easily add/delete areas as trips vary over time.
Just reinstall onto the card what I want for a trip.

Some hints and experiences:

Basecamp is quite easy to use, if you've been using Google maps etc. Thanks toBumpkin :comfort who has posted a couple of really good videos. in the stickies of the GPS info section. Really great to get you over the hurdle of using the software.

Use a card reader to install maps, instead of the Sat nav it's a bit quicker.

AND BE PATIENT

The install process can take HOURS. I repeat can take HOURS!!!!!

I thought 'Map Installer' had bombed or hung because it didn't move after saying it had said completed and 100% done etc.
But it sticks like this.
So go away and just leave it to finish.
Spent a frustrating evening last night trying a number of different ways to get this to work.:blast

Work it does and even an old Zumo 400 is now breathing new life into these new maps.:bounce1

Roll on Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Czech, Netherlands - Zumo is waiting to call the way!!

Well that's my tuppence worth.
