Zumo 500?

Hi there...
929bladerunner can you please provide some info about the Zumo 500 that you bought?? Are you happy with it?
I am planning to buy Z500 from the same shop and I am little concerned relative with that "white box" thing? How about the quarantee?? So how was the gps? it was in good condition? did it have all the items inside? did it have motorcycle mount? can you upgrade maps easily?
Sorry for the amount of questions but I am really close to spend some money and buy a proper gps and I would lke to know something as z550 and z600 are out om my money-range....

Hi, regarding my Z500, I'm very pleased with it so far, though due to the crap weather have not tried it on the bike.

It arrived in it's Garmin "white box" but believe me, it was NEW and came with all the bike fittings and power lead (all individually wrapped up), Euro maps on CD etc - I would fully recommend it.:thumb

As you probably know, the Z500 has just a 512MB memory built in (Zumo 550 has 2Gig), this is why only UK maps are loaded BUT with an SD card (I bought a 4Gig for £8) that just plugs in to the bottom of the unit you can easily load all the Euro maps (from CD supplied) and still have loads of free space for music/photos etc.

It does not come with a car mounting but this is not a problem for me.
I'm happy so far. :aidan

Thank you very much for the info 929bladerunner... :bow
I think that I will procede and buy that gps unit...
thanks for the issues that you mention but firstly anyway I was planning to buy a SD card and have it inside the Z500 and secondly...I don't have a car...so I don't care about the car mount....:augie :D :cool :D

was on the phone to BMW (vines of guildford) about wiring in the Z500. they seem to think that the mount is permanently connected and live. ie it will still take power from the battery even when the gps unit has been removed.
this will result in a flat batter.
any one else had this issue with this unit?

thanks

I had my mount wired on the ignition switch on my old K1100, it was a pain as each time I stopped to stretch my legs it would turn off if I forgot to select 'stay on' when it sensed the power was gone, then I'd have to restart the whole thing etc... Now I have it permanently live on the GS with no issues, it's just a connection, there is no circuitry in there as far as I know.
