I ordered a new cradle and power lead so that I can use the Zumo on my X-Challenge, but despite paying for next day delivery it has not arrived and wont get here until tomorrow afternoon. I am going to be riding up to Wales and I am not sure I will have time to set up the new mount and wire it in before I leave, so was wondering if anyone has any real experience of battery life of the Zumo 550 when in use? Garmin specs say up to 4 hours (which is the estimate for riding to Wales!!) but these specs can be optimistic at times and battery life does deteriate over time, so my 1 year old unit may not be as good.
It is not critical becuase I can always leave it switched off for the first part of the journey and just switch it on when/if I need it or even use a map :eek

Cheers

Does the x-challenge have a DIN socket? If so, why not get an adapter to power a usb lead to power the GPS? Assuming it's not going to rain and you have a tank bag to put it in if it does?

Hi,

had similar problem with zumo and battery lasted almost 4 hrs before giving up.

Good news - thanks

Nope - no power sockect as standard. There is a mounting point and I will be adding one in the future.

Don't turn it on till your halfway there :D

So what I need to do is ride halfway there using the GPS and then turn back, when I get home I can charge the Zumo and start again and then not switch it on again until I am halfway there.........Genius!!!!!

Or I could use the map:D

Do you really need a GPS to get to Wales !!

some tips.

S Wales go along M4 - cross severn bridge

N Wales go to Oxford then M40 to Birmingham then M54 to mid or N Wales.

If going along the side roads then just write down the names of the towns and follow the signs.

After 2 hours - turn on GPS and follow to destination.

Its amazing the invention of the GPS either dulls the brain or makes adventurous people out of those that would not normally leave their garden.

This post is not meant to be insulting but come on please a little bit of thought.
