How long does the internal Zumo 550 battery last when it's not in the cradle?

I'm picking up a new bike next week that won't have a cradle mounted and wondered if the 550 would last the 3 hour trip home stuck in the map pocket of my tankbag?

you should get 4 hrs out of it. turn down the screen brightness a bit - to help.

About 3 mins on my ten month old unit.

Is it just mine or do they deteriorate very quickly?

It depends.
How old is the 550 ?. If its more than a couple of years old, and hasnt been kept "topped up" it will not hold much charge for very long.
The good news is you can replace the battery easily enough. I got one from
www.mdsbattery.co.uk

Battery

Reported the fault this morning. Garmin answered the phone quickly, offered to refurbish the unit. I asked if they could send a battery, man said yes no problem its in the post today. (free under warranty)

(They don't do the 660 as a replacement for 550 anymore as they have stock of 550's)
