Before I post on the Zumo forums, I thought I'd check no-one had this problem.

When I listen to music or directions on the Zumo, I'm getting an intermittent problem.

Bascially, it'll all start off okay, then after a while, the audio goes crackly and intermittent.

Now, after doing various tests and playing around, I've narrowed it down to the bike mount.

If I put my finger on the lead/pin where it connects to the mount, everything plays fine all the time.

When I put the lead in, there's a positive movement of it going in and it's not loose.

So it would seem that either the connecter isn't being "grabbed" or seating properly and putting my finger on it is keeping it seated properly.

I don't need to exert any pressure as such, just put my finger on the lead.

I've used contact cleaner on the jack, inside the mount & all other bits, but I'm still getting the problem.

Obviously I can't ride along with my finger on the lead all the time :D

As the mounts well out of warranty, I've had a quick look, but the audio jack housing is sealed in gel, so there's no other way of cleaning it.

Any suggestions?

Hi Jon,
Sounds more like oxidised contacts (ie a bit of light corrosion)
Try using a gash jack plug with a bit of brasso on it to see if this will clean up the contacts.

Jon I had exactly the same problem. I tried a number of fixes and never really succeeded. I rung Garmin and explained my problem. They were great, my mount was out of warranty and they replaced it FOC. Give em a call.

So I finally got my arse in gear and popped into Garmin UK on the way to work today.

I'd literally just unscrewed the bracket off the bike, so it was bare, even missing the security screw etc (cos I had one of the threaded aftermarket ones).

Popped into reception & explained the problem. A guy came out, explained it to him and without batting an eyelid he said no problem, he'd replace it FOC.

5 minutes later he handed me a branded Garmin box with "replacement motorcycle bracket" on it, containing a brand new bracket, new screws, security screw & driver etc etc.

Can't say better than that :thumb2
