Hi,

have been offered a iphone 4, with tmobile, and wanted to seek some advice,

i use my bmwbadged 550 with starcom on the bike, and take calls via the 550,

is it easy to link up via the bluetooth,

any problems peeps have had,

thanks for any help and advice.

also , what about using it abroad, do you have to remove settings, so it is not always roaming,

ta

the 3gs dont have auto answer, im not sure about the iphone4 if this is the case your not going to be able to answer on the move.

its the one reason ive never bothered linking my 3gs to mine

I've the same setup ('cept my Zumo is a 'real' Gamin one) and it won't work with the iPhone 4. While on the phone to Garmin for another issue I was told the iPhone 4 was new and not supported yet. And there's me thinking that was the whole point of standards ... oh well.

Thanks Mup,

was the reason for the question, just in case there were any problems,

Incidentally, and Zumo aside, if this would be your first iPhone then I'd say go for it. The 4 is my first as well, and I'm thinking of replacing my Sony Vaio (MS Vista) laptop for a MacBook Pro purely on the strength of the iPhone. I love the way that you don't have to fiddle with it, it just works. True, for travelling abroad I'd turn off "data roaming" but that seems to be the default setting anyway. :nenau

If you can live with the expense then it'll be the best phone you ever had - period.

ta for that,

the deal has taken me by surprise, as my upgrade was january, my eldest is a total apple fan, has the iphone 4, mac, various ipods etc.

yes my first iphone, but not sure if i will take the deal and flog the phone, and put the money to a rukka kit, as not unhappy really with my nokia e71.

will be the 32gig phone, but will have to be on the tmobile contract.

Mmm... really interesting. I've spent a lot of time on the phone to Garmin over the years. You have to. I'm away at the moment so I can't check but I thought I had got my iphone 4 working with exactly the same set up ie Zumo 550 bluetoothed to iphone 4 and using a starcom. But now you've got me wondering as I've only upgraded from a 3Gs just over a week ago and I cant remember if I've used it yet. Will test and repost when I get home.

However, used iphones for a long time now and have had no problem at all with setting it up for use in both car and on bike with the Zumo. Works really well.

But... if it is the case that the V4 doesn't work with Garmin I'm not surprised. I'm singularly unimpressed with Garmin. Cant understand why people sing sing their praises so much. The number of people I know who have had to use their (admittedly very good) support service as they've had problems, or in my case had to have in turn all my units replaced: 2610, Nuvi, Zumo and the Zumo car mount due to faults. When they work they are great but as I've written here before, the reliability seems questionable. Not the case with their marine kit!

Iphone - just brilliant. I've had all of them and the 4 is better again.

Oh an dif you are going abroad with an iphone 4 or have upgraded your 3GS with V4 software, beware. I use o2. Have been used to turning off Data Roaming and to be fair o2 always send you messages to remind you - otherwise you run up data download costs. What you need to know is that wiht the new software, you ALSO need to tunr off Cellular Data!!! If you dont (as I and another friend found) you get anasty bill on your return. Mine was an extra £30 or so rang o2 and they acknowledge the problem and have promised to refund me (and my mate also) on next years bill. So beware. As along as you know its fine but they need to update their message.

Just checked and I was right. iPhone 4 connects/works fine with Zumo 550. Ok you have to touch the screen of the Zumo to accept incoming call but no problem. Also easy to dial out though not a good idea when your on the move I suggest.
