Hi Font of All Wisdom,

My Zumo 550 (bought March 07) has just recently started to play up.

While on a trip through the Alps last Sept it started to 'jump' when I pressed a key or a pin number to log in - other keys would highlight. Now when I try to start it up it wont even respond to any touch screen commands. The key still highlights yellow but nothing happens. Have tried to re-calibrate by holding the On/off button down for 30 secs, but even when the dot and crosshairs come up it wont respond to touch.

I signed up to NuMaps for Life and recently downloaded the latest version of Mapsource and was wondering if it had anything to do with it.

Also, when in the Alps I cleaned 'gunge' off the screen with an alcohol Medi wipe???

Any help would be appreciated.

I send an email to Garmin on Sunday, but as yet have not had a reply.

Thanks,

E

Thanks Al,

I haven't mentioned the Medi Wipe to Garmin, hope they can sort it out, "you never miss the water till the well runs dry". Didn't realise just how much I use it until it didn't work.

Best,

E

Same happened to me last September 09 "Happy Days" :D

How this actually happens is that...... when Garmin are out of stock of re-furbished units .....they just send you on a new one to keep you happy :thumb

Wish other companies were as service oriented as Garmin :clap

you would be surprised the number of people who arrive here at Ridersrest who have had or are having this problem, this is a common problem with small hand held computers, iPODs and SatNave devices and usually nothing to worry about as long as you know how to reset the device without losing all your data and settings ie a warm boot.

on an iPOD simply hold the paly button whilst at the same time holding the menu button for about 5 seconds or more until the unit switches off. you should then be able to switch it on again as normal ;)

With the Zumo 400, 500, 550 it is a similar sequence... Hold the power button and the plus button for 5 or more seconds until the unit powers off wait a few seconds and the unit should then repower in the normal way when you switch it on.

Hope that helps
