Gents,
First post in this section...

Have a Zumo 550 and would like to update maps ready for a trip to Norway in June.

What's the process/cost? Got to ask....any dodgy downloads?

Mate also needs the same...could we use the same update software on each device to save purchasing twice?

Look forward to your replies.....and of course links to dodgy map upgrade software!

Cheers :thumb

Yes you can use the same 550 software update on both machines.

As for the rest, search is your friend. :thumb2

Not from Garmin you can't, each update is locked to a specific GPS.

Official Garmin lifetime updates can be had for about £50 from Handtec or Petagon GPS. These are for the life of the GPS, not you. Updates are once every four months or so.

Of course you could go down the pirated software route and let everyone else pay your way, because that's essentially what we're doing at the end of the day. If you want mapping for your Garmin for free then use OpenStreetMap. Pretty good and getting better all the time.

Mapsource question

Looking for a little guidance.

I have recently planned a route, saved it, sent it to my device (Zumo 500) and all is well....:D

The query is that i have emailed said route to a pal, who has a Zumo 550, but for some reason the routes simply do not appear to be saving in his routes folder.

Mapsource is telling him that the data has been successfully transfered but all evidence to the contrary.

Any thoughts folks? :bow :bow :bow :bow

Cheers :thumb2

I'm not sure what the problem is, but I'd try the following (assumes there is a separate memory card in the Zumo):

Open the emailed route in Mapsource, then R-click on the route name and make a duplicate copy. R-click on the copy and recalculate. Compare original and recalculated copy, adjust as needed. This gets the route correct for his map version (assuming he's got the same map on his PC and the Zumo). Delete the original route.

Still in Mapsource, go to File, Save As and save in .GPX format to the PC hard disk.

Then copy the .GPX file to a folder on the memory card <root of card>\Garmin\route_file.gpx.

When the Zumo starts it should have a message 'new data found' or similar. Let it import the route. Or you can prompt it to import using the My Data icon.

Should all be working now :thumb2
