Sorry if this has been raised before but I cant find anything. I want to wire a Zumo 550 to my 800, I gather there is an aux socket under the top 'tank' panel to wire straight to the CAN bus with the lead provided with the unit. Trouble is on other forums folk say when they've done this the battery flattens within a couple of days even, obviously with the unit removed. Best thing they say is wire straight to the battery, through the ignition with a fuse. Anyone done this?
All comments appreciated. Thanks

With it wired straight to the battery I've had this happen ,but only when leaving the unit in the cradle for 4 days.
Otherwise no problem.
It's wired to an auxiliary fusebox now , that's triggered by the aux connector , and so turns off a minute after the ignition is switched off.

I wired my Zumo 550 through the dedicated connector you're talking about, but if I left the bike more than a day or so, the battery went flat every time.

To stop it happening I wired a relay to the auxiliary socket, and wired the Zumo to the output from the relay. A BMW tech told me he'd seen this often, the Zumo cradle can continue to draw power even when it's unoccupied AND the ignition's switched off.

Used the canbus plug by the headstock on my 650, 5 minute job.
The sat nav stays on for a couple of mins after you switch of the bike, must say I always wired older units direct to the battery, but why bother when you have a dedicated power supply on all modern BMWs :beerjug:

Cheers Freeloader and Ash, the more info the better, it's obviously not as straightforward as I thought:thumb

if you are after the can bus connector loom i have one for sale,it was fitted on my 800 from new for 14months with no battery problems

I wired my Zumo 550 direct to the auxiliary socket. It works great and switches itself off about 1 minute after the ignition switches off :thumb

I've wired mine to the aux socket, and it works well. The only possible issue is that it turns off when filling up with fuel. All very neat, with no messing about. If I decide to take it off, it just unplugs.
