My 590 has been working fine, all the music on the 8Gb card has been playing fine....decided to wipe the card and put on some different music .

Took the card out and plugged it in the back of the MAC.... erased it, then manually added new tracks. These show up when I click on the card.

Put it back in the 590 and all it get is 'no MP3's found '

I've read about sticking a single song onto the unit memory... that comes up fine, but still the other tracks are not being seen....

Idea's appreciated :thumb

The tracks that you have saved to the card maybe in Mac format and not in MP3. Go into the card and right click on a track to see it's properties to check if it is an MP3 or other format.

it appears to be an issue with the formatting.... both the 32gb card I have and the 8gb card have been formatted on the mac... they will not work in the sumo 590... I tried a track dragged onto a 2gb card and the 590 saw that one :blast

I've followed all the web ideas about MSDos formatting etc. Still no good

Mac:

Open Spotlight (CMD + SPACE on the keyboard)
Type Disk Utility (in Spotlight search box)
Press Return on the keyboard
Click the parent icon for the SD card in the sidebar on the left (the parent icon is the one that is not indented)
Click on the Erase option on the right
In the Format drop down menu, select MS-DOS (FAT)
In the Scheme drop down menu, select Master Boot Record (Mac OS X 10.11+)
In the Name field, type a name/title for the SD card (Do not leave the name as "Untitled")
Click Erase
These steps will format the microSD/SD card to be readable by the Garmin device.

1The majority of microSD/SD cards are identified by a PC as Removable Disk and Untitled or No Name by a Mac.

dunno if this is the cause, but cards formatted, or even simply mounted on macs will have additional files added that do not show up in Finder, but can confuse certain models of Garmin. maybe this is what is happening here?

BlueHarvest will get rid of these files and IIRC can do it in the apps trial mode so it's free.

of course, it could be some other issue entirely, but as it happened after being mounted on a mac i thought i'd mention it....

Was with you until the scheme drop down menu bit.... select master boot record... didn't see that .......:nenau

The card says MSDos Fat 32 on it when I click info... but when I drag mp3's into it, it still is not seen by the 590

That is about my limit I'm afraid but I'd be tempted to try another card for a sanity check. I'm convinced it has something to do with the Mac format.

I used it maybe 6 months ago and it could be downloaded and used for the job free at that time.

Thanks for the suggestions and guidance folks.....I've managed to load some songs on to a 2gb card and it seems to see them.... it is obviously a formatting issue.... the 2gb has never been formatted .... at least it will give me some songs for the commute :thumb

The 2gb SD card will be formatted as Fat 16 not 32.

Are you using a USB card reader?
I haven't had much success using card adapter's.

I've not formatted the 2gb card, and it is the only one that seems to work, the 32gb card says fat 32 on info, the same as the internal memory on the 590, so I can't understand why it would not work. unless wiping it has left it corrupt, and the same with the 8gb card .....

I've tried formatting in a card adapter, and also by plugging the 590 straight in, and then formatting it while it is in situ... still nothing ....

Might be obvious but is the adapter unlocked with the switch on the side?

No switch on this one .... and it was used to load the 2gb card, and worked fine...also even the ones that don't work in the 590 show music on them , and seem to play.... just not in the 590 ;)

Does the device see routes & favourites on the card or is it just MP3's that are the problem ?
