Just about to purchase the Zumo 660

No good without a intercom, read whats on here regarding Scala G4 etc etc, quite like bluetooth rather than wires, plugins etc...but what in your opinion is the best intercom to work with the Zumo?

will be using it one up and two up, both using full face helmets for your information

Thanks in advance :beerjug:

I believe that you'll have issues with Bluetooth if both you and your pillion want music from the 660 as it'll only pair with one headset, not two. That's from what I've read not experienced however, there maybe a solution out there.

Personally I prefer a wired intercom, unplugging leads become 2nd nature and not really a hassle, no battery to go flat, more robust, very modular and bike to bike range, with the right kit, is greater. Autocom :thumb

It's your choice though and if wire free is very appealing to you then I'm sure there will be others along to advise on the current BT 'hot-potato'.

For what it's worth, I have both a Streetpilot III and a 2720. Neither one will output its audio to my Starcom Advance. I get a hum from the III and a squeal from the 2720. Adding a booster just made the aforementioned noises louder. Whatever option you choose, test it before you buy.

You do have an isolating lead connecting the two don't you? As both intercom and GPS are bike powered you can get GLI (Ground Loop Interference). This is related to the different paths to earth from both devices. Intercom manufacturers such as Autocom and Starcom sell these isolating leads. Not cheap but they solve the problem.

Sena smh10 is another BT alternative, a fairly comprehensive report here.

As for music (if indeed you want it:nenau) I stream my ipod via this wee gadget to both headsets...

Phone is via my 660 as well as direction voice prompts.

The Sena will also pair with up to 4 other units...

I've used several different systems over the years including Autocom and the German 'Rolls Royce', "Baehr" but find the full BT no wire option suits me best...for now...;)

Horses for...:thumb

I use an autocom hard wired to the bike and leads to each helmet, GPS, music and telephone are all crystal clear to both rider and passenger at any speed. The disadvantage is the cost as you need the additional extension leads to each helmet plus the suitable phone cable from the GPS loom to the autocom. The phone is bluetoothed to the 660, but the sound is by cable via the loom to the autocom, if that makes sense! As said before you get used to plugging yourself in.

Me too, nothing to pair (and find unpairs itself) ability to have multiple simultaneous inputs, music front and back, or just rider, or just pillion.

I always have music on the go, use sat-nav on long trips, and a small MP3 player the rest of the time, this goes for about 12 hours between charges (just plug into USB socket)

I also use an ampli-rider, full setup and install shown here:-

For full flexibility it has to be Autocom/Starcom.

For convenience it's Bluetooth.

Neither for the requirements you mention is a cheap option.

Bluetooth - Sena, Interphone, Scala all much of a muchness, have used them all.

Interphone: Best for robustness (awkward buttons)

Scala: Best for intercom range (huge size though) G9 the latest offering offers significant 'value-add' (gimmickry)

Sena: best user interface by far (poor back up from manufacturer but may be improved by latest UK distributor the 3rd to date!)

Schuberth SRC (by Scala based on G4), heinously expensive, shit FM radio but now improved in latest version according to supplier contact with better antenna). Neatest of all solutions.

BMW (by Schuberth, by Scala based on G4) (see above re cost usually negated by dealer discounting). Absolute Bastid to fit (let the supplying dealer do it!). Also neat once installed.

I've always used the schuberth src. But for a couple of failures, that were replaced with new versions pdq by the importer, I found it a very usable system and covered over 100k miles with it. I admit, I never used the radio.

Just removed my autocom super pro and replaced with scala G9. Much better performance than autocom and also wireless. Autocom never worked correctly with zumo 550 and phone (using autocom bluetooth unit) as the volume was useless at speed. G9 just works great.
