a little while ago i bought a zumo 660 of a good bod on this site,he had never registered it ,so i just did it in my name .
anyway it could do with the maps updating i have tried on the garmin site but its asking for money.
is there a way i can do it for free,i do have a micro sd card in.
any help please

I would say no, you only get so long to register the unit once youve bought it and its first turned on and found a satellite for the first time, thats the info ive got any way with my new navigator 1V

The simple answer is you can't unless the unit came with free lifetime updates which it sounds like yours didn't. You have the option of either purchasing a 1 off update or a lifetime one.

TBH with the faffing about most people have doing it I wouldn't bother, I had a 550 for years that I never updated the maps on. Yes there were new roads missing but I always use a map as backup and for planning so was rarely surprised.

For free?

Ask the bod who sold you the device to send you their log-on details.

You can then pretend to be them and all will be well.

Failing that, prevail upon the seller that you will send him the device back, ask him to do it and then send it back to you.

No good?

Google: Free Garmin map updates

No good? Search for other free map products on the net. If kids (and Fanum) can get copies of the latest blockbuster for free, you'll surely manage to find a map?

No good? Invest a few quid and avoid buying H 7 bulbs from BMW dealers.
