Zumo 660 - Maps Install To Computer Fails

I've recently bought a new Zumo 660LM and used Garmin Express to update the unit.

It's now running on Firmware V5.00 and Europe maps 2014.40 and is working just fine.

However, every time I try to install the maps to the PC (Both when updating the unit using "Device and Computer", and subsequently "Computer Only"), it consistently fails and throws an error.

It gets to 69% progress, then resets to zero, whizzes through from 0% to 100% in about three seconds, and then displays an error message that the install failed and to contact Garmin support.

I have contacted them and they advised me to disassociate the 660 from the software, reinstall Garmin Express, and re-associate it.

Which I have done, but is still fails at exactly the same point when trying to install the maps to the computer.

Anyone have any advice on what to try next, before Garmin just send me another cut n' paste set of instructions......?

If you are using a PC instead of a Mac, try using Mapinstaller / Mapupdater.

Both are Garmin products that predate Garmin Express. You may have to hunt around on the internet to find the downloads.

Before you start with either of these two programmes, make sure you have deleted Garmin Express or turned it off. It's the default software your device will go hunting for otherwise.
 
Thaks Wapping, I may give that a go.

In the meantime, I contacted Garmin with the issue.

After a couple of emails, they asked me to send the logs to them (Handily collated by a little piece of software they linked to)

They've now come back and said that "We have currently seen some reports of the download failing when installing to the computer." and have opened a formal case for me.

I'll update further here when they get back to me in case others have similar problems. :thumb2
 
I recently had the same issue when trying to download the maps to my Mac. Garmin support have asked me to send them the GarminDevice.XML file from my Nav IV. Hmmm.....must get round to doing that.
 
Garmin Express was working ok but after so many updates it's now failing, saying that, MapUpdater isn't working very well either.
 
Quick update:

I've just received an email from Garmin saying that the issue has been resolved and to try downloading the maps to my PC again.

I used Garmin Express set to "Computer Only", and it has now successfully loaded the maps onto my PC. :bounce1
