Zumo 660 motorcycle mount without the wiring??

Hi folks.

Does anyone know of a handlebar mount/adaptor available for the Zumo 660 which does not have the wiring harnes?

Heading of to SE Asia in June for a month and will be doing some road and off road riding. Planning to take my 660 for route guidance for both (I have access to maps and routes from a kind chap called Phil at Riders Corner, Chiang Mai).
I'll be using rental bikes and not really want to mess around hard-wiring the unit to each bike, plus I would rather not strip this out of my GS.

Looked all over but can't seem to find anything without the wiring other than the car mount which is designed to go with the suction cup, which I already have?

You could get a case to Velcro to the bars which would be easily removed.

I have the RAM Mount - just cant find an adaptor for the 660 without the wiring? (except the car adaptor, which has the socket as opposed to adaptor plate with the ball)

There are bar mounts on the site that are recommended for pedal cycle usage only (which seem to utilise the car mount), might work on the road bike if protected from the wind but I wouldnt want to risk it off road. Expensive bit of kit to lose

Could you not just get a conventional BMW or 660 cradle, then cable tie the cables out of the way?

Mount the cradle onto a flat Rammount that has the male ball on the back. Then, take a short female Ram arm and a male ball clamp to clamp to the bike itself. It would be just like mounting a conventional cradle, just with the cables tied out of the way.

Do check on how long you expect the 660's battery to last between charges; it may not be as long as you think.

But is the plastic Garmin mounting plate you are after, the one that is bolted to the Ram plate and the one that usually comes with all the cables?

Then tie the cables up with a cable tie out of the way

As my last post, if it is the Garmin plastic mounting plate then I happen to have one that I have cut the cable off as I was intending to use the Touratech adapter cable when I had my GS. Now surplus to requirements, yours for the cost of postage.

That's the one. Trying to avoid going down the route of stripping the one I have installed on my GS at the moment and then having a bundle of wires wound up at the back. Surprised Garmin dont do the same adaptor just with no cables, for temporary use (or when renting bikes)? I was thinking that I was gonna end up buying one and cutting the cables off myself but an expensive excercise. I'll PM you about the adaptor you have. Much appreciated.

Probably, the answer is that most people want to power their GPS device and comparatively few people rent motorcycles, rendering the dedicated manufacturing of a de-wired cradle uneconomic.

Is it worth doing a google image search for "zumo 660 mount". ?

I say that because RAM used to do an unpowered clamp for the 2610. Google image can often be a good way of getting a link.

I am sure I recall someone on this forum doing a detailed run through of how to strip back the cable on the back of the mount to leave just the power cable. There could be a YouTube clip. It really should be fairly straightforward and will be a better solution than needing to change or recharge the Zumo battery ( which will last for a couple of hours as I discovered when the 660 mount failed a while ago!)
