Anyone any idea for mounting a Zumo 660 to the new bike. My original RAM mount is from a 2008 GSA.

According to the guy on the MBW stand at Excel at the weekend, a ZUMO 660 will fit in the BMW mounting that is supplied as part of the TE spec. The only thing is that the zumo won't work with the jog wheel on the left hand handle bar.

If you are not getting that spec, I suspect that TT will be along with an over the instrument bar onto which you will be able to clamp your existing TT mount.

Well that answers a question I had in mind. So unless you pay BMW for their extra special Zumo 660 the jog wheel is just for finger exercises.

Are you under the impression that the BMW mount/plastic thingy will be part of the TE Spec? My assumption was that the bar and jog wheel was all that you got, the mount being part of the GPS if you know what I mean??

There is another thread on here about the Zumo 660. If you are getting a TE or have specified the prep for sat nav, you get everything but the unit. So, mount and wiring is included.

If you have a std 660 you lose three functions - zoom in, zoom out and back to the home page -which are driven from the wheel.

It looks like BMW think (for health and safety reasons) we can't do any more when riding so restrict the use of any more functions from the wheel. Of course you can lean forward and just touch the screen.

Especially helpful when on a BMW guided tour through North Africa when you are probably going to get shot at by terrorists ! :augie

AT least on the TE GS THE Zumo is set high and close to the rider so within easy reach of fingers.

I have been using the wheel and BMW 660 on a K1600 which positions the unit out of reach plus so far away it tests your eyesight!

So getting a Garmin 660 for the TE will save a large amount of dosh for little inconvenience. The BMW SatNav is way overpriced compared to the Garmin 660.

But to confuse things, using the wheel to zoom in and out is a very useful feature at complicated junctions.

The Zumo has an auto zoom setting - I find that enough.

It would have been nice to have had that function - shame BM seem to have locked it out!

At least they resisted fitting the TE with the BMW engine mode that returns 80mpg but only available to those wearing their BMW Riders Boots with wireless microchip.:D

And to make it look like a K1600 a bit, to emphasize it's touring capabilities.;)

You can mount a 660 on the GS TE mount which is lockable and powered so you can leave the 660 on when stopping for a break.

One downside is that it covers the top half of the rev counter. Dumb!

I am going to look if it can be relocated which looks difficult at first glance.

Why do you need to see the rev counter. The patronising "up" arrow tells you when to change gear..:blast

Apart from dealer hearsay (Could & Should), Is anyone actually using the Garmin 660 on the new bike?

Any problems?

I used my 660 in the cradle fitted to the TE model that I test rode last week. It worked fine for me (aside from the already documented issue about the wheel thing on the left handlebar not working, but not too bothered about that). I liked the fact that it sits quite high up and the locking device is quite neat, I thought.

I will continue to use it when I get my TE in a couple of weeks.

I'm using a 660 but have swapped the BMW mount (just the actual holder not the full lockable mount) for the original 660 one. I have also swapped the release pusher over as it needs to be longer.

Wired it in so I have power and 3.5 jack output for audio.

The original parts are safely stored away.

I tried a NAV4 but to honest the wheel don't do much. It's a nice touch but the over whelming factor for me is the NAV4 only communicates via Bluetooth, unless you access the jack socket on the side of the unit which is messy.

That's my 2p!!

Thanks Jonny, so are you saying that the holder and release from the 660 need to be used? Just that I will be looking to use the holder for the other bike I have.

Only if like me you don't like Bluetooth and want a lead for audio out other wise the mount supplied will power the 660 and that's all you need :thumb
