Zumo 660 Power Cradle

I have an ongoing issue with my Zumo 660 and the power cradle.

Going back sometime the Zumo unit would stop taking power from the cradle. ie. would give me the shutting down dialog. If I shut it down or let it go through it's 25 second cycle it will power off then power on again because it's connected to power.
I finally got round to replacing the cradle put the problem persisted in the new cradle. It's more of a pain in the arse as if you leave it, after a few times of powering off and on again it would settle down and be OK.
I subsequently lost my original Zumo and replaced it with a secondhand unit. Low and behold this behaves exactly the same way when in the cradle.
If I use it in the car in the car cradle I have no issues at all.
Has anybody else experienced this problem; did you manage to resolve it?

you dont say what bike, or where you are taking the power from, first thing would be if you have not already done so is to make sure you have a constant feed, to test it i would take it from the battery fused as close to pos terminal as possible and only with the power and earth connected and nothing else. you may also want to try it on another vehicle using the bike cradle just use a decent bit of twin and a fuse onto the battery, you dont say how often the fault occurs, do you have to wait an age for it to happen or does it do it all the time, if the fault occurs on another vehicle using the above method you can rule out the vehicle, hope this helps

As the problem is repeating itself with the second unit and a second cradle, I'd suspect the wiring. Check, in no particular order:

1. The state of the wires

2. The state of the connection where you take the power from and the return to earth

3. The state of any fuse / fuse holder

4. The state of the pins on the cradle

5. If it's a canbus equipped bike, the state of anything else attached the the same circuit, that might be causing the system to short to off.

Put a thin sliver of foam between the battery and the door on the back of the 660.

Mine was doing that on the bike (due to vibration ?) but not in the car ................ worked out it was the battery moving about in the sat nav and losing contact , with the foam installed there hasn't been any more problems in the past 10 months
