Hi all,

Recently purchased a Zumo 660 from this site. I've been using it in the car for the last few days and noticed it regularly loses the map. The road I am on suddenly disappears. It sometimes reappears but usually I have to switch it off and back on. When it does reappear by itself it's always at a junction. :nenau

Any suggestions or is it back to Garmin with it?

Cheers
Steve

just for completeness it's probably worth checking you have the latest SW on it (3.30) and perhaps do a master reset (as Garmin will ask you to do this anyway). Master reset loses all your info on the unit, so back up tracks, favorites, tracks etc first.

Having said all that, my money would be "back to Garmin with it".

cheers

Markie

Do you have the same problem on your motorbike, I assume you have one?

If not, it's a problem specific to your car, not the device.

What do you mean by 'Loses the maps'?

That the maps disappear, leaving you with a blank screen?

That your routing disappears?

That the maps freeze?

When you say, the mapping restarts always at a junction. Does this mean when your car arrives at a junction, the mapping restarts? Or, that the cursor points at a junction?

Does you car have a solar-reflective windscreen? My SAAB did. If it does the chances are your GPS device cannot receive the signal properly. There is a chance it can just about get the odd signal via a side window. My 660 will sometimes function on the Shuttle for exactly that reason.

Are you sure there is not a simple fault in the power lead or are you using it on battery power?

Your best bet?

Update the software / try a hard re-set, see if that wakes it up.

Second best bet?

Call Garmin.

Thanks for the replies lads. Much appreciated. :thumb2

Havent used it on the bike as of yet...only have it a few days.

When I say the map disappears I mean the screen goes white leaving just the car icon. It doesnt give directions but still indicates my speed. When/if the map reappears it carries on as if if nothing happened but if I have not followed the route intended while it was off it recalculates once the map reappears.

Don't think it is anything to do with the power lead but I presume you were wondering if it was going completely dead.

I don't have a solar-reflective windscreen by the way but I will move it to the side window on my route home this evening.

Thanks again
Steve

I've had my Zumo for a while now but last week had a similar problem to this on a business trip to Sheffield. As I left the M1 the unit kept the slip road/junction view (as if it was locked) although I had left the motorway. The voice prompts carried on as normal.

After I stopped the routing and restarted it again the actual map page came back blank, as in Steve's case, although the voice guidance carried on working.

Shutting down and restarting the unit gave the same result, a blank map screen. I got to my destination by just following the voice prompts, turned off the unit and when I restarted it 3 hours later it worked fine. It's been ok since. Weird.

Just to keep ye in the loop.

I updated the firmware and did a full reset. It cured it for a few days but as of this morning it's worse than ever! Most of the roads I used coming to work today were missing. :nenau

Back to Garmin me thinks. :blast

I had identical problems repeatedly with mine on the M1, Notts. It was solved by turning off the speed camera proximity alarm.

Then it died completely and was replaced by Garmin under warranty

I had a similar problem until I upgraded the software and the problem went away.
