Zumo 660 Version 3.80 as of may 17 2010

On the phone to Garmin now ... they say they haven't heard of the problem!

:blast

I spoke to Alex (he has an accent) at Garmin. He doesn't know what the problem is but from something he said, I suspect that the unit only supports a 4Gb SD card.

8 GB Micro SD HC card in mine and it updated without any problem......:nenau

Nothing at all, as yet.

Hmmm.

Maybe it doesn't like too much on there. Mine works perfectly without the card, and it's been running for an hour on my desk with about 5Gb of music on an 8Gb card - but it packed up earlier this morning in exactly the same state. I may try deleting a few toons.

I thought the last update had the effect of increasing mSD card capacity to 16GB?

I only updated mine to 3.7 (the one before this anyway?) a fortnight ago, along with 2011.10 mapset.

Think I'll leave well alone for now.

I don't suppose it (3.8) puts the scale bar back on the nav screen full time?

Where's my 2610......... :rob

Just to add to the update dramas, my unit worked fine without before the update with 8gb card and about 6gb of music on it. The only way I've found mine works ok now is when I did the following-
Removed and formatted the card
whilst still in card reader I made a folder called 'Music'
dropped all music albums into this folder.
So far it's got about 2gb in there and it seems to be holding, might keep loading it up until it spits it's dummy again to see how much the unit can now cope with.
I suspect the cause of the shut down is when it's searching through the card on startup to see what you've got, to much and it throws a wobbly

PS I do like the 'more map detail' option that makes the buttons transparent and the music icon always on.

Nick Hi...

recalibrate screen, worth a try, all three i have updated tonight work at the moment, and reset.

Tried everything but nothing would sort it....until I did a full reset of the system, that sorted the odometer problem.....BUT...then nothing would work, wouldn't calculate routes, kept switching its self off...in the end reloaded 3.50 back on to the GPS and all seems to be working Ok again. As to the Odometer that must be a thing with 3.80 as it does not appear with the older version....

Well done Garmin for a total load of crap.....:D

Audio on SDHC Card

Ok - initial testing, off the bike show that after upgrading from 3.50 to 3.80 that the MP3s are being loaded ok.

The unit is no slower to startup than before and I really prefer the new Map display and the permanent audio icon.

Oh, the audio?

The 8GB SDHC with 7GB of audio is fine.

Lovely.

Not on mine. ... and it's the digits of the displayed speed which turn red when you exceed the posted limit.

You are right, I've just had a chance to go out for a ride and it's the digits that go Red :)

This update is working well for me. Really love the More Data view.

16 GB card

Have been using the 660 since last june. I have followed all the upgrades. This one how ever gave me the same problem as others reported. It shuts down:eek: As for Garmin they have at an earlier stage said that the 660 support at least 4GB...

Just updated.

I have no SD card as I don't listen to music on the bike.

The update worked OK although it took two updates (a 2 minute session followed by a 2 second session).

Not sure I like the audio button but maybe I need to start listening to music :nenau

Been following this topic on the Zumo Forum
http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php?topic=11663.0
and there are quite a lot of folk having problems, so think I will wait awhile 'til it's all sorted.
However, one very obvious complaint is that the Blue Note Icon ( no, not Bluenote Records sadly) is NOT configurable, and can't, for the moment, be customised to either show or hide.
Personally I don't play music whilst riding, and the loss of screen real-estate would be an annoyance.
It does seem that the Garmin Guys have a way to go with de-bugging v3.80.
Maybe when they've done that they can start on Road Trip ....still can't get it working properly, whilst Base Camp works fairly well on my Mac !
Ho Hum....:augie

The internet is a big place, so a small percentage of users having a problem can give the impression that it's a lot bigger if they all post their problems.

Personally 3.80 has worked well for me and I have suggested to all my 660 buddies to update asap.

Sure, it's the nature of updates that they solve some problems and can cause new ones, but for me 3.80 is a major step forward.

I agree, and a lot of the "complainers" were Americans who can't even spell properly !!
Good to hear that it's working well for you, and, let's be honest, it's not rocket science to make a safety copy of your existing 3.5 version set-up prior to upgrading, and then easy to revert back.
So, is that Blue Note a problem for you, and do you like the new map views ?
I am tempted to uprade, but always tend to wait until the odd fews bugs are sorted out first.

i gave in and uploaded it last night, i had read all the posts so took my 2gb mini SD card out first, uploaded it, put it back in and no problems at all.

Roder, With the "more map view" selection you dont loose any of the screen size :thumb2

I don't use the MP3 player much, so I don't really need the blue note sign, but to be honest it just blends into the display and does not stick out for me. Yes it would be better if it was optional.

I really like the More Data view, the 'classic' widescreen version is a waste of the screen. The TT Rider used to be able to display more info than the 660, but it was too small to be useful. Now the 660 can display enough useful info, 4 boxes + the time, but in a useable and safe size, so that's why I really like that new view.

The More Map view is nice, but loses the next turn box, which is just plain crazy for me, but others might not be bothered :)

Thanks LBL -maybe I might give it a go then !
Looks like I could live with the Blue Note, but it seems like you loose the "Street" banner at the top of the screen ? Does this appear when you start moving, or is that the point of the "More Map Mode" ?
