Though l would try the latest maping update as have paid for them. Had to install latest downloader from GARMIN then wait for unit to reboot and update before downloading new maps, well after it updated itself it ran ok could update my info after reset, and it stayed on all ok now that was till l turned it off back to square one. Now doing map up date if it stayes on will not turn it off.

to change to v3.80 you need the Garmin WebUpdater (which is available from teh Garmin website). That software detects which unit is hooked up to your PC and searchs for and loads the latest version.

If you want v3.50, you have to get it here:

They must have removed this update as all I can see on the download page is

Ver. 3.50, as of December 4, 2009 !

I am running v3.8 and the only glitch I have had so far on a trip in Europe was the loss of the navigation voice, though still had display updates. Switched unit off and then on again and back she came to tell me what to do :comfort. No problems with music on an sd card playing. Somebody did steal my 660 mount cover at Garmisch tonight though

New SW

So why is it taking so long... Garmin not paying attention, or having problems coming up with a real fix:augie

Should not be long now, keep checking webupdater.

An update for the 665 was released onto webupdater a cople of days ago and it seems to have cured all the shut down problems that 3.80 introduced to the 660, so it should not be long before we get an update.

After the weekend perhaps ?

they were available on ebay the other day £5 inc post, for some unknown reason i ordered 3...

And thanks to your post I have a spare sitting at home. Had the first bit of rain on our trip today and don,t really like leaving the mount uncovered so used a plastic coin bag to cover it up.

Was having the same trouble with mine, would shut down when firing it up in the house for no reason, which made trying to load anything on it a real pain in the ass, and I really couldn't figure out why:nenau
It was only when we went to Pyrenees that I found it would shut down without warning whilst going through long tunnels, regardless of whether I had the music (8gb card) on or not. As soon as I came out of the tunnels and fired it back up it would work again.

However strangely after doing this numerous times :pullface it now when it loses satellites it tells me by both a command over the headphones and a message on the screen. More importantly it stays on!!!! (and it keeps playing music) :D

Now I'm not making any bold claims that I have fixed it or that I truly believe it is never going to play up again:augie, but when it works it really is very nice. :ChrisKelly

I am now using v3.90 beta software.

All my problems appear to be fixed!

:clap

The software isn't yet on general release but can't be too far away.
