Hi Guys,

I've heard alot about wiring the zumo into the Can bus socket under the beak (R1200 GS - 2009) but can't find much detail on how this is actually done. Is it a case of splicing wires or is there a connector block thats available, is it a simple job etc etc

Hope you can assist......

Thanks mate thats just what i was after :thumb2

Where's the best place to get the can bus socket? I've not heard of them before so i'm guessing its a trip to the BMW dealer?

The part number is in the thread. Go to BuMW dealer who will order one in, if it's not in stock. There are threads about some dealers refusing (God only knows why) if so, contact another.....

Nippy Norman may sell a suitable one, pre-made, for your Zumo. Nippy is a site sponsor (or at least has a link) on UKGSer, up at the top. Click on it and search away... or ring him up.

Thanks again guys. Found one on Nippy Normans for £17 :)

Local BMW dealer refused to sell me one. apparently i might bugger up the ECU. Instead they assured me they could fit it and would only charge me £35 for fitting (which they say is a 3hr job!!). The unit is also £100 more expensive from them and thats not including the £60 of mounts they want me to buy!!

As i wasn't born yesterday i think i might have a go myself......

wish me luck :aidan

Cheers for all the help!!

P.S - If the CAN-BUS wires aren't labelled 1,2,and 3 with the NN item can anyone help identify which will be which....hope that makes sense....

Thanks

My dealer was very good indeed - Rainbows in Rotherham.

On the one hand they wouldn't sell me the plug direct BUT they did supply the plug on the proviso they wire it up for me. Not only did they do this, they only charged me for the cost if the plug. That's only £8!

It seems experiences vary wildy from one dealer to another but I find a quiet word with them generally gets something done.

Yes you can buy from Nippy's but they charge £17 for the cable PLUS £7.50 for postage. That's scandalous and you then have to do all the wiring yourself.
